Ross Douthat, New York Times: History in its day to day is not a morality play. But sometimes there is a clear chastisement, a moment when the judgments of providence seem stark. And so it may be for the men who led the Republican Party into its Trumpian inferno. In bending the knee to [Donald] Trump last spring, they thought that they were buying party unity and a continued share of power, and paying for it with just a little of their decency, a mite of their patriotism, a soupcon of their honor. They may find out soon enough that all this bargain bought them was an even harsher reckoning, and that all they will inherit is the wind.

Trump is the GOPs reckoning. Here to end the borrowed time they have been living on.....

I don't always agree with Douthat but he's definitely an upgrade for the Times over Kristol.

Kristol didn't mind Dick Cheney's plan for a Unitary Executive. But this dictator B.S. is too much, even for him.

Inherit the wind.

Also translates as reap the wirlwind.

Scary possibility.

The GOP needs to be careful not to lose the House at this point. This is a disaster.

A lot of people are going to stay home on the Republican side. They show up for presidential elections. And if they are not really supporting Trump, it could cause huge voter turn out losses.
