A North Carolina congressman said that protesters against police brutality "hate white people because white people are successful and they're not."

Republican Rep. Robert Pittenger made the remarks about unrest in Charlotte after the police shooting death of Keith Scott during an interview with the BBC on Thursday when asked to describe the "grievance" of people in the street.

The grievance in their minds, the animus, the anger. They hate white people because white people are successful and they're not," he said.

Beyond his comments on race, Pittenger's re-election campaign has been followed by concerns over an FBI probe into possible improper payments from his real estate company to his campaign.

of course.

I think I'm finally beginning to understand that many, many white people sincerely think this and believe it, not out of risible hatred, but out of sheer ignorance. That is why when someone more urbane hears this and calls them 'racist' it ends any chance at an educational discourse. They know that word means they're a bad person and they certainly don't see themselves - nor the people they personally know who agree with them - in that light. When I watched him say this, along with the interviewer's obviously shocked face, I could tell he wasn't saying it from a standpoint of hatred. He was really trying to say it's a shame black people are behind white people after all that's been done for them. If he actually learned the darker history of America he'd find out that slavery actually never ended it only continues to change form for the times.

FBI probe, too? I hadn't heard that part until you posted the story.

This on top of the "If you're black and you haven't been successful in the last 50 years, it's your own fault. You've had every opportunity, it was given to you," comment from Kathy Miller (Mr Trump's chair of Ohio Mahoning county) makes me wonder how that "minority outreach" is going.

...A North Carolina congressman said that protesters against police brutality "hate white people because white people are successful and they're not."...

And that is the problem in North Carolina.

Politicians ascribing problems to people who do not or may not have those problems.

So, taking this a bit further, this would lead to NC politicians trying to solve problems that do not exist.

And this may be a reason for the HB2 law, i.e., trying to solve problems that do not exist.

I might actually have to turn on the BBC to hear what their talking heads have to say about this.
I wonder if, like here, some people will say his comment wasn't racist.

Both interviewer's had slack-jawed amazement looks as though they couldn't believe someone could be so incredibly provential and ill-informed to even think something so out-of-touch-with-reality, much less verbalize it on television. It's as if you could read both their thought clouds and they both said "Unaware Racist ignoramus".

Perhaps the waters weren't chummed properly.
But I can name a a handful of folks here who agree with her.
And also will explain that they aren't racist, but I probably am.

Just so I have this straight:

Saying low income white males are racist against immigrants because they are not successful = Not racist

Saying that low income black people rioting and beating up white people because they are not successful = racist

Do I have this down correctly? Can't wait for Trump to finally restore some sanity to this country.

One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result - we have had 8 years of Obama and now some people want 4-8 more of the same under Clinton...yes, that is insanity unless their goal truly is the destruction of America.

You have a very limited view of how long it takes to reach long term goals, especially if you expect those goals to be permanent.

It's easy for any president to put a band-aid on a gaping wound and hope it sticks long enough for him to get out of office and blame it on the next president when the wound starts to bleed again. President Obama's policies have put America back on the road to economic recovery. Household income for middle Americans have increased by $4,000/yr and unemployment is down to acceptable levels. He saved the auto industry (which is once again reporting record sales) and saved the banking industry from total collapse which would have reverberated around the world.

He told us in the beginning that recovery from the Bush era recession was going to be a long and difficult road. He never tried to sell us some instant gratification nonsense. He brought Iran to the table and negotiated a solution to their nuclear expansion.

If I had more bandwidth I'd list everything that Obama has accomplished but I think it would fall on deaf ears because you'd rather see some greed infested nutcase step in and destroy it all. I don't know who's is more infested with insanity ~ you or Trump. But the fact remains that nobody in their right mind would put America's fortunes and the leadership of the world in the hands of a mentally deranged (seriously) bloodsucker like Trump.

The job of President of the United States is the most difficult job in the world. You better hope that Hillary Clinton takes over where Obama left off ~ unless you're one of those scorched earth guys who won't be happy unless you're surrounded by chaos and the stench of your country sinking into decline again.

If you bring up ISIS, I'm going to puke. Obama has formed a coalition to fight ISIS without the necessity of sacrificing the lives of thousands of America's men and women in our military. Gone are the body bags of our soldiers arriving at Dover by the hundreds. Gone are the multiple troop deployments and the burden it places on our Veterans Administration ~ not to mention the toll on limbs and lives of those who arrive back home less than whole.

You may be callous enough to consider America's military men and women as dispensable but I prefer to keep them strong and healthy and at home. I prefer to let other countries fight their wars at their own expense without America's physical intervention, with the exception of armaments and intelligence assistance.

You go join your other phony armchair warriors second guessing the Commander-in Chief from the safety of your armchair. That's your real niche.

I don't know where this is coming from but the US is arming the wrong side (moderate terrorists) wasting money and goodwill in the process. We need to stay out and let the Russians and SAA wrap up the mission. Hillary's 'no fly' zone to shoot down Russian planes is the dumbest thing the US could ever do in that region. I guess it is hard to do the right thing when the Saudi's fund the Clinton Foundations with hundreds of millions of dollars.

"...without the necessity of sacrificing the lives of thousands of America's men and women in our military. "

Plenty of people are sacrificing their lives in our global myth-adventures; but yes, less of them are American.

What bothers be most are the prevailing exceptionalist opinions that American lives are more valuable than human lives.

You know as well as I do that Obama is demanding that other countries put some skin in the game. It's shouldn't always be Americans who are dying on the field for somebody's elses fight.

It doesn't have anything to do with who's life is more valuable than the other. It's about who is and who isn't stepping up to their responsibilities. Up until Obama, the U.S. Military was expected to show up front and center to solve ever problem in the world.

Kudos to Obama for turning that around.

If you listen to Trump who wants to do away with NATO, we'll be back to square one with an idiot for a Commander-in-Chief.

Ask yourself, why are people protesting in NC and not in OK?

When you realize that 70% of the people arrested are from out-of-state, the answer becomes clear.

The Dems see a political advantage to be gained from protests in NC where the outcome of the election is not clear (as it is in OK).

So this is where they send their people to riot.

This really has little to do with white cops killing black people (as happened in OK) but has to do with gaining political advantage.

Who gains a political advantage when white cops kill black people, and why?

#21 | Posted by snoofy at 2016-09-23 06:59 PM | Reply

The political gain is in the rioting, it brings out the Dem voters.
