Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, September 22, 2016

Sometimes the best response to overheated political rhetoric is one of those dull if worthy white papers issued with alarming regularity by Washington think tanks and research organizations. So it is with two recent reports on immigration, both useful correctives to Donald Trump's statements on the subject. A Pew Research Center report, released this week, confirms previous findings: The number of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. peaked in 2007 before dropping sharply -- with more undocumented Mexicans, in particular, leaving the U.S. than entering. Net illegal immigration is flat, and has been for several years. Contrary to Trump's claims, undocumented immigrants are not "pouring across our borders unabated" before going on to commit "great amounts of crime."

That Donald Trump lacks credibility no longer qualifies as news. More interesting are the implications of this report for his immigration proposals ...

This isn't true, they have been granted visas, which makes them "documented" and "legal".

You seem to have a hard time with only facts. The article talks about how many immigrants are entering or leaving the US. You talk about how many are apprehended. Your own article says that Obama has been concentrating more on apprehending people at the border. So, is the increase in apprehensions because more people are coming across, or because we are catching a higher percentage of the people crossing?

Also, we may have had a brief increase in the amount of illegal immigrants due to unrest in Central America, but that doesn't change the fact that Trump is lying about/misrepresenting the long term trends to his gullible followers.

Also, Trump talks regularly about illegal immigrants taking our jobs. Are you honestly concerned about women and children from Central America taking your job?

"We can only query against that which we have collected," Comey said. "If someone has never made a ripple in the pond in Syria in a way that would get their identity or their interest reflected in our database, we can query our database until the cows come home but we are not going to -- there will be nothing show up because we have no record on that person."

So while the process is very thorough, Comey was saying he couldn't guarantee there would never be a problem and no terrorist could ever slip through the cracks. That's just the way it is.

Well duh. Just like if you want a gun to commit crimes but you aren't flagged by NICS or you buy it from a private party, there's no way to stop you.

Has the narrative shifted from they hate us for our freedoms to they love us for our love of making firearms so widely available?

Yes, and he's saying it while cowering under an afghan blanket in his rocker while soiling his Depends all because of the extremely rare chance he'll be a victim of terrorism.

so>Just what percent of terrorists among Syrian immigrants do you personally find acceptable?

What's it matter? If someone were to guarantee that some person will never ever ever become a terrorist would you believe them?

Unless they are a time traveler from the future and an honest one they simply have no way of knowing that.

Now unless you're advocating for some sort of policy where we let a bunch of syrians in see how many become terrorists and then use that data accordingly it's not clear what you are saying.

Oh. Nevermind. You're saying don't let any Muslims in, right?

Why?
You won't come out and say what you want done.

I wish the Trump voters had some kind of special armbands, then I'd know who to pigeon-hole. The right is not supposed to be this fractured.

Also even the census cant track all of these people how can this survey do it?

More terrorist acts have been committed by white people in this country than by brown people, so does that mean we shut the door to white immigration too? No matter how well we vet somebody, we can never guarantee that they won't be radicalized at some point.

What's funny is that in the past we have learned from terror attacks and taken measures to stop future similar attacks; hardened cockpits, tracking fertilizer sales, taking your shoes off at airport security. That is until the favorite weapon for terrorists became AR-15 style assault weapons, then god forbid we track their sales or make them less readily available to any ----- who can afford one. You Reichwingers don't want to stop terrorism, you just want terror to be committed by people who look like you!

When CA started issuing Illegals DL, the demand was so far above predictions that it literally broke the DMV computer systems. These article talking about the number of illegals are laughable.
