Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, September 22, 2016

Donald Trump once refused to pay a winner of a hole-in-one contest $1 million during a 2010 golf tournament, prompting the competition's winner to sue the mogul, recently unearthed documents from the lawsuit show. When the GOP nominee finally settled the suit for $158,000, he did so with money from his charitable foundation, which is illegal. The claims add to mounting allegations surrounding Trump's ethics as a businessman as well as the legal and ethical questions surrounding his charity, the Donald J. Trump Foundation.

Under the rules of the competition, Greenberg was entitled to a $1 million prize. But the rules also stipulated that Greenberg's shot had to travel at least 150 yards, a distance that Trump's golf club allegedly made the hole short of on purpose.

Just over an hour after Greenberg's shot, he was "summoned" to meet with representatives from Trump's club and the insurance company that underwrote the prize to examine the spot from where he hit his shot.

William Fried, one of Greenberg's attorneys, told the News the claim was ultimately denied because "the markers at the tee were not set at the right yardage" and that "the course" -- owned by Trump in this case -- "traditionally sets those markers."

Eventually, Trump's club and Greenberg settled the case, with the company agreeing to donate $158,000 to a charity chosen by Greenberg, which he later decided would be the Martin Greenberg Foundation.

"And when the GOP nominee finally settled the suit for $158,000, he did so with money from his charitable foundation, which is illegal"

I'm sure that Trump supporters will continue to carry his maggot-dripping banner forward proudly, as always.

There's nothing this man can do that offends them. They identify with that creature, poor bastards.

It appears the only smart move trump has ever made is assuming the electorate is too stupid to care about how vile a --- he is.

hole in one contests can be insured....that policy would have cost $500-$800 or so.

what a ---- for brains.

It was insured. But Trump gamed the game by requiring the Hole in one to be greater than 150 yds, then setting up the hole in one contest from a tee position that was less than 150 yds.

All this is FTA, Eberly. Trump was cheating his marks. It was intentional fraud.

Or as Cheeto Jeebus says, "It's RIGGED!".

Great work if you can get it.

Trump commits fraud.

Trump gets sued for fraud.

Trump reaches settlement in fraud case.

Trump uses money donated to his charity by other people to pay off the fraud settlement.

No wonder he is a hero to the Trump Fluffers.

Trump is such a swindler that he even fixes a hole-in-one contest so that no one can win.

The sleaze dripping off this guy on a daily basis could be collected and used as biofuel, like how cooking grease is turned into biodiesel.

Any explanation or apology from MACKRIS?

Anyone? PROLIX? At least one of Trump's supporters has got to have an opinion on this matter, yes?

See now this is the type of story that can actually hurt trump.

Immigration policy, tax rates, foreign policy, climate change... all that stuff is too complex for his stupid supporters to see how ignorant or dishonest he is about those issues.

But not paying a hole-in-one contest winner is something they can wrap their dim heads around. They can imagine THEMSELVES in that situation.

And to find out he rigged the game so that the entire thing was impossible to win, perhaps they'll see that he could do that to all of us on a massive scale... perhaps.

APOCALYPTO answers his own question in his own Washington Post link.

FTA

Fact Checker gave the claims made regarding the Clinton Foundation's involvement in the hospital in Haiti FOUR PINOCCHIOS.

There's a lot of criticism lodged against the Clintons for their involvement with recovery efforts in Haiti. But Cohen's claim that Hillary Clinton raised hundreds of millions of dollars through the Clinton Foundation for a hospital that was never delivered is not credible.

There is, indeed, a major public hospital in Port-au-Prince that has been delayed, even though it was one of the first projects approved by the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission. The commission was co-chaired by Bill Clinton, who became the face of many recovery efforts in Haiti. Cohen can blame Bill Clinton's leadership on the commission, or the managing of taxpayer money for this project. But that claim is entirely different from the one Cohen made. Perhaps Cohen was referring to the $500 million in "commitments to action" for Haiti initiatives announced by the Clinton Foundation. But not all of the commitments were relating to health care or building a hospital, and the commitments don't involve Clinton Foundation money.

We've done our part to check out his claim, but the burden of proof still lies with Cohen. If he wants to respond and point us to a specific source, we're eager to take a look. In the meantime, he earns Four Pinocchios.

There's a lot of information in the WAPO article linked in APOCALYPTO's #19 (and well worth a read) regarding recovery efforts after the hurricane destruction in Haiti.

Some recovery efforts were successful, some were not and some are still a work in progress since 2010. None of it involved a failure of the Clinton Foundation. Bill Clinton, solicited commitments for direct aid to Haiti but none of those funds were channeled through the Clinton Foundation or the Clinton Global Initiative nor were those promised funds monitored or under the control of either the Foundation or the Initiative.

I put APOCALYPTO's attempt to discredit Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation under the heading of:

There was no $100 million.

Since no comment or opinion on the Retort carries any weight in the grand scale of things, meaning business is hardly worth the time it takes to lock the cap key.

But it does break up the monotony of the redundancy. Sort of like using bold, semi-bold or italics.

Just ask him. ~ LOL

Donald Trump reminds me of Kim in North Korea. I remember the time Kim built a golf course and shot a hole in one on every hole. He is a living God after all.

#27 | Posted by Sycophant at 2016-09-23 10:36 AM | Reply

There is definitely some funny business there, but let me see if I understand this right...

The insurance company was supposed to pay the winnings, which is fairly typical in this sort of situation, and I guess they refused since the shot wasn't far enough away. That put Trump's people in a bit of a pickle. It seems to me that it would have been in Trump's monetary interest to make it so the insurance company would have to pay.

In my opinion, this is a sort of rich man's contest. I bet the entry fee was really high, and it also explains the pay out being to charity because the winner didn't really need the money. Rich people squabbling over winnings at a rich person's contest doesn't really make me feel bad for anyone. In the end, no one was really hurt. There are much worse Trump stories than this one.

-It seems to me that it would have been in Trump's monetary interest to make it so the insurance company would have to pay.'

exactly....why deliberately move the tee up? the winner will expect to be paid....it wasn't his fault the tee was moved up.

#29 | Posted by eberly at 2016-09-23 12:34 PM | Reply

Even if he was not involved in moving the tee up intentionally, it was his course and if it wasn't set up properly that is ultimately on him. Even if the sponsor refused to pay the honorable thing to do would have been for him to pay up since his organization screwed up.
