The state of Texas on Wednesday announced that it is withdrawing from the Obama administration's refugee resettlement program due to the administration's inability to ensure that refugees resettled in the state do not pose terror threats, according to an announcement by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.

Texas informed the Office of Refugee Resettlement in a letter that it will be withdrawing from the program on Jan. 31, 2017. The letter comes on the heels of several weekend terror attacks across the United States

Texas officials drafted a plan that would require federal national security officials to provide assurances that none of the individuals being resettled pose a terror threat. The administration has declined to approve this plan.

Abbott said Texas would not accept a single refuge until proper security measures are put in place.

Hillary nose diving a week ago. Islamic Terrorism attacks last weekend. BLM riots this week. Texas refusing refugees. I don't think Trump could lose this election if he tried.

He's trying. His tax plan gives more money to the rich and creates trillions in debt the rest of us will have to pay.

He's probably shocked to learn his followers are so stupid, they don't even care if he takes money from them and gives it to the rich.

The morons voting for him don't care.

So any state can just opt out of this? Why aren't more?

Well, he is certainly trying real hard.

"Hillary nose diving..."

Polls go up... polls go down. As of Sept 20 Hillary is ahead and surging right now. The only poll that will matter,of course, is on election day.

"Islamic Terrorism attacks last weekend. BLM riots this week. Texas refusing refugees."

Naturally Texas overreacts and blames refugees fleeing for their lives who have nothing to do with this latest incident.

And Blacks Lives do Matter so maybe if police departments learn to de-escalate these types of encounters without resorting to killing so many black men then maybe they will quit rioting.

It's a shame to see Texas act so cowardly. I thought people in my native state were made of tougher stuff.

They're not. All the cowboy boots and big loud trucks are COMPENSATING for the fact that they're scared little babies.

The elite want to ship refugees to places like Idaho, the midwest, rural areas, etc., not in their backyard. Equality demands that they be settled in Martha's Vineyard, the Hamptons,Washington, D.C, Palo Alto, Naples, FL., Beverly Hills, etc. Probably plenty of empty office space on Wall Street that could be converted into refugee apartments.

Sounds like places where cost of living is cheaper and manual low skill labor jobs are available. Might not be an elite conspiracy.

Those places Nulli references hire and have more jobs available for unskilled labor than Buffalo WY.

It might not be an Elite conspiracy, but it certainly is stupid.

They should be sent to where their fellow countrymens enclaves are in the country, help them feel comfortable and not be isolated, this would go along way to avoid them getting caught up in terrorist propaganda.

Lets say its Syria.... send them to one of these top 100 locations...

Creating critical mass for the radical Islam you're so worried about...

I understand you're opposed to allowing immigrants into America, but seeing as we do, don't you think immigrants should, you know, assimilate?

Hmmmm...if ONLY there were some places CLOSER to them with a lot of money.....unless they know something we dont or maybe they're just smarter than we are...

let's see.. places CLOSE like

Saudi arabia...Kuwait...quatar...or the UAE....

shame that...UNLESS it's not about some moral issue......

and just do what we ask...let us go...then you won't have anything to worry about....

and GOOD LUCK replacing that one fifth of refining production that you'd lose....we'd be too busy making deals with mexico and other countries ....wall or no wall...

UAE just announced it will accept Syrian refugees!
An amount of 15,000 over the next 5 years (lol). As I expected based in their reliance yet poor treatment of migrant workers, the UAE would prefer to not allow in unskilled, poor individuals. Even if those refugees are nearby neighbors fleeing a humanitarian crisis.

No one ever called Muslim -majority countries charitable, lol.

Has the UAE been openly waging war against Iraq and Syria for the past 13 years?

Why should they be obligated to clean up our mess?

Yep. Well to do people who think they are 'liberal' pretend to be unquestioningly pro-refugee knowing damn well that they will never have to see one. Smugness is best savored when it is aquired at someone else's expense.

The minute one of their daughters has to walk past a refugee settlement on her way to school it will no longer be "bigoted" to ask "legitimate questions".

Yeah, Jordan hasn't already allowed 1.4 million Syrian refugees into their country.

#22 | Posted by danni at 2016-09-22 12:39 PM | Reply

Jordan is a secular parliamentary monarchy with numerous western educated leaders in the executive branch (and the PM currently has his children attending Georgetown U).

While Jordan's demographics skew Muslim, the government does not operate as an extension of political Islam. Jordan does many great things in fighting the war against Daesh as well, it is sad that the USA does not support Jordan with similar gusto that the US supports militant Islamist regimes such as Saudi Arabia.

Its a fairly well documented problem that some refugees tend to get handsy when they see women or girls wearing typical Western garb.

Do you think the German government hands out pamphlets to refugees that has a picutre of a man grabbing a woman in a skirt's bottom with a big read X through it because Merkel is an anti-refugee bigot?

If you're trying to insinuate that my alluding to this well documented bit of reality makes me a 'bigot', the Germans tried name calling people who mention the problem and suprisingly, that did not make the problem go away. So now they are trying the pamphlet thing.

This is not a problem limited to refugees, but rather is found in a group called "men."

Several countries that have very low sex assault rates have seen an increase in sex assaults and it is attributable to a higher assault rate among refugees.

I'm sorry that all documented evidence conflicts with this particular aspect of your world view but I'm going to stick with reality on this one.

#31 | Posted by snoofy at 2016-09-22 01:40 PM | Reply

I'm curious if those countries have lower sexual assault rates than we do. Maybe an increase in their rate would just bring them up to our normal baseline rate. It's a difficult comparison you're making, and far from convincing in a statistical sense.

I'm not saying it couldn't be convincing, but you have some homework to do.

Well Germany is printing up "please stop assaulting German women" brochures while taking an official stance of denial. The Swedish solution was to stop tracking the ethnicity of who commits crimes because the stats were not so good for the official narrative.

It is hard to get accurate information because the reporting on this is heavily skewed along political lines. That they are taking steps against it or to cover it up is the best way to confirm that the powers that be know it is happening.

I'm not anti-taking in refugees so much as I'm anti-ignoring the issues that taking in refugees creates. Just because there are issues doesn't mean it is worth while. But when a government sells a policy by lying about the drawbacks rather than selling the positives, I tend to reflexively push back. In the US, the government doesn't lie about crime so much as it lies about the vetting process. It is impossible to vet people coming from a devastated region with any degree of accuracy. You can't confirm paperwork with by placing a call to a pile of rubble. A very good argument can be made for taking people in even though we can't vet them with a degree of accuracy. But the Obama admin has chosen to lie about the accuracy of the vetting process instead and that I can't support.
