Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Hillary Clinton caught a lot of flak for referring to half of Trump Supporters as "the deplorables." She was being far too generous. Public opinion surveys over the last year or so suggest that the white supremacist contingent of Trump voters is even larger. When I say white supremacist, I'm not referring to the old-style, KKK, white robe donning and lynchings of America's past. Rather, the contemporary form of white supremacy is more of a "hate-lite" – if such a thing exists – in terms of its supporters embracing horrible, racist stereotypes, while claiming to reject racism. Call this "color-blind" racism, dog whistle racism, coded racism – or whatever you like, but it's clear that white supremacy never disappeared from America's political culture.

The GOP has been pitching to the deplorable state for a very long time.

According to former RNC chairman, Reagan and Bush I adviser Led Atwater:

You start out in 1954 by saying, "------, ------, ------." By 1968 you can't say "------" -- that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states' rights, and all that stuff, and you're getting so abstract. Now, you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "------, ------."

There sure seems to be an increase in Trump hate culture on this site.

The hate I see is from the leftists.

Rioting outside Trump rallies.

Calling Trump an ape.

Trump's supporters are despicable and irredeemable.

Destroying property.

It's funny that those making the most hateful comments are the ones accusing their opponents of being hateful.

That they fail to see the self-irony only adds to the mirth.

Failing to see the obvious idiocy of putting Donald the Dangerous Douche in the WH is beyond irony.

A LOT of people feel the same way about Clinton and that number appears to be growing.

I think they are both unfit and won't vote for either one. I get why you are voting for Clinton and I won't disparage you for it.

I just hope you understand/recognize that - no matter how misguided and wrong from your perspective - much of the aversion to Clinton has little to do with Trump 'peddling hate'.

The aversion should be to GOP and alt right Trump policy that enriches the rich and devastates the middle class.

It's the leftists who continue to call everyone disagreeing with them haters, racists, xenophobes, etc. When the left knows they've lost on any particular issue out come their fangs and the tirades begin.

"It's the leftists who continue to call everyone disagreeing with them haters, racists, xenophobes, etc."

The unforunate side effect of using these terms when engaging in simple name calling is that it diminishes their effect when used properly. I can't imagine that anyone who truly cares about these issues and isn't an idiot would use these terms gratiutously.
