A federal judge on Friday struck down new requirements for Texas abortion facilities -- a decision that could have shuttered all but a few abortion clinics in the state. The standards were set to go into effect Monday. U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel of the District Court for the Western District of Texas ruled that the law's ambulatory surgical center requirement "burdens Texas women in a way incompatible with the principles of personal freedom and privacy protected by the United States Constitution for the 40 years since Roe v. Wade." House Bill 2 would have required abortion facilities to meet the same standards as ambulatory surgical centers.

State Sen. Wendy Davis, the Democratic candidate for governor, said the ruling was a "victory for women's health care." "These decisions should only be made between a woman, her doctor and her God -- not Austin politicians like Attorney General Greg Abbott, who would make abortion illegal even in cases of rape and incest."

There are currently 19 abortion clinics in Texas, down from 40 before the bill took effect.

Let's see how long it'll be before the Theocracy Five on the Supreme Court uphold this legislation whilst playing dumb and claiming that it was intended for public health reasons and had nothing to do with depriving women of their constitutional rights.

I for one support the wholesale abortion of teenshoppers. Thank god for abortion, abortionists, and all those future criminals who get aborted.

This is like some Sci-Fi B-rated movie, only this is real. Keep abortion legal or get yourself car-jacked someday.

This ruling is a financial hit for the fine entrepreneurial Texas women who offer low-cost, efficient abortions in the safety of their mobile homes, sec.8 apartments and horse barns. (food stamps OK for payment)
