Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Police in Georgia fired a Taser at a man 13 times and caused his death in April because he refused their orders to walk, a new lawsuit has revealed. Gregory Towns died after he was repeatedly Tased by East Point in an effort to make him get up and walk after a chase. "This is a direct violation of their own rules," said Chris Stewart, the attorney for Towns' family. "You cannot use a Taser to escort or prod a subject. ... He wasn't cursing. He wasn't being abusive. He was saying, 'I'm tired.'"

The lawyers for officer Howard Weems, who was fired after being one of two cops who fired the Tasers at Towns, said in a statement that "use of drive stun to gain compliance is permitted under federal and Georgia law."

Another case of not following the law getting a black man killed. The guy was chased for a mile after someone reported domestic abuse.

Using a taser/stun gun on an unrestrained phsyical attacker = self defense.

Using a taser/stun gun to gain compliance = torture

Using a taser/stun gun on a person numerous times until that person dies = murder

Its really that simple.

You forgot one

Using a taser/stun gun on an unsuspecting buddy while he is pissing in the bushes=an absurd amount of hilarity.

Please list the names and addresses of these police officers. I'm sure somebody would be kind enough to go have a nice polite conversation with them.

Seeing as it's against the rules,
Where are the criminal charges?

I'm also a little surprised that infliction of pain to achieve compliance is as broadly legal as the lawyer for Howard Weems suggests.

At least they were using non-lethal force. Until he died anyway.

I've noticed that many "News" sites no longer offer commenting to the public. They want total control of the message again as they once had it. Or they only offer commenting through FB so that Zuckerberg can control the information flow on citizens, while they keep information flow from media, financial, and political elites private.

Sully got it right, as usual, this is straight up murder.

A lot of that is not so much to control the information but to curb trolling on the sites by removing the anonymous nature of the trolling.

Most people don't troll under their real names, especially when their "friends" can see it like on facebook.

I've seen a lot of posts that would make a West Baptist Church protest participant go..."Whoa Dude, that's a bit harsh"

And how easy is it to set up fake accounts on Facebook? Probably very.

Believe it or not, police and Taser companies argue there's no proof there's a cause and effect relationship between running an electric current through a person's body and death.

I heard even Vlad blushed when he heard that one.

This is true, but it's more monitored for duplicate accounts than say a site like disqus is.

Cool story bro.

I've noticed that even the most ignorant right-wingers are reluctant to publicly lick the police jackboots in threads like this.

Instead they try to sabotage the conversation and change the subject using fear, uncertainty, and doubt.

Tased 13 times until dead, for not walking? Wow, darn good thing the dead dude wasn't cheating at long division math or something. Can you imagine what he'd gotten then?
