Islamist militants battling the Syrian government seized control of the Quneitra border crossing between Syria and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Wednesday, according to an Israeli military spokesman and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Among the fighters were members of al-Nusra Front, a Syrian rebel group with ties to al Qaeda, according to the Israel Defense Forces. And while the Islamist forces are no match for Israeli troops in the heavily militarized zone, the takeover represents a new dynamic in a war long feared not only for its deadly effects inside Syria but for threatening to widen into a destabilizing regional conflict, CNN's Ben Wedeman reported Wednesday. "Essentially, now you have the Nusra Front facing off just a couple of hundred meters from the Israeli army," he said, adding that United Nations peacekeepers are stationed between the two.

al-Nusra Front, ISIS, al-qaeda, Islamic State -- Geeze, I need a program to figure out all the players in this Middle East mess.

Good idea ISIS, Get the Israelis involved.

I beleive Israel is one of ISIS' primary goals. We'll have to see how far they think they can push on this. I don't think the Israelis will abandon their equipment and run.

Could they be any more useless? What is the point of deploying these numbnuts in the first place? Jihadists don't have enough human shields as it is?

Israel getting involved in the Syrian war WILL lead to WW3 I fear.

The UN "base" sits in a swale, the Israelis own the upper ridge.

You could see the base from the highway in Israel.

I am sure Israel has a "strategy".

Israel won't drag itself in there. But it may take the opportunity do some surgical "cleansing". This is why we pay Israel, to do the stuff we don't have the testicular fortitude to do.

The next time Israel acts on our behalf will be the first.

In the past, there may have been times where our interests intersected, but they would never do anything solely because we want them to do it. They've even proven that they are prefectly willing to slaughter Americans when it suits them. And the American government has proven that it will let them.

IMHO, our paying to Israel is a Cold War relic. We "needed" them during the Cold War because we needed a possible road into the Middle East. They were close to Russia. We don't need to pay them anymore.

Muslims vs everyone else. That's all you need to know..

#10 and #11,

Stop your "America abandoning Israel" fantasies. Obama will soon be out of office and with a republican in there, we will be friends again with Israel.

Prime example of how not having a clear engagement(combat) policy and wish washy policy does not work against a decisive and determined enemy.

Hardly. Israel is pretty short on huevos these days. They can't even commit a few hundred IDF soldiers to take out Hamas. Not that it would serve them politically to take out Hamas, but eventually they'll have to decide how many ants in their kitchen is too much. Currently Israel seems satisfied to let the entire region save Israel come under the sway of Islamic militants; how that serves any purpose I can't tell unless they really do crave an excuse to use those nukes.

Once again the MSM (CNN) closes off the American public from commenting on their biased bigoted pro Israeli screw America news. I refuse to visit such sites that disallow comments because their goal is to entirely muzzle the USA public.

The turmoil in the ME from false Iraq intel, to Gaza, to Libya to Syria to Egypt was probably instigated by outside interests who do not care one iota if tens of thousands of innocent civilians are killed in moving their agenda. War by deception.

The Ukrainian uproar and overthrow of their leader was fabricated and intended to pit the USA and Europe against Russia.

This new ISIS uproar was created to suck the USA and Europe into another ME war just as was the attack on USS Liberty and the yellowcake BS. The USA needs to take care of the USA and tell Israel and others to take care of their own. Entangling alliances are against our interest.

There is something extraordinarily reckless and evil about any country that would threaten to nuke the entire world (including USA cities) with what they call a Samson Option, yet the media and our pols focus on two bit groups with rocket launchers and call them the world's biggest threat.

While I agree it should disqualify them from receiving US aid, Israel never signed the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty and are therefore allowed to have as many nukes as they want.
