Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

"We want to find out whether space-time is a quantum system just like matter is," said Craig Hogan, director of Fermilab's Center for Particle Astrophysics and the developer of the holographic noise theory. "If we see something, it will completely change ideas about space we've used for thousands of years." Quantum theory suggests that it is impossible to know both the exact location and the exact speed of subatomic particles. If space comes in 2-D bits with limited information about the precise location of objects, then space itself would fall under the same theory of uncertainty. The same way that matter continues to jiggle (as quantum waves) even when cooled to absolute zero, this digitized space should have built-in vibrations even in its lowest energy state.

Essentially, the experiment probes the limits of the universe's ability to store information. If there is a set number of bits that tell you where something is, it eventually becomes impossible to find more specific information about the location -- even in principle. The instrument testing these limits is Fermilab's Holometer, or holographic interferometer, the most sensitive device ever created to measure the quantum jitter of space itself.

Won't the computer that's running the simulation fake the results to hide its own existence from humanity?

Good point. It is perhaps impossible to refute a truly thoroughgoing skeptic...

Reality is a False Flag Op.

If existence as we know it is a hologram projected by a computer we really are designed.

So the Creationists and Intelligent Design folk may have been right all along?

#11 | Posted by moder8 at 2014-08-28 11:48 AM | Reply | Flag:

Of course we were. But it's important that one discover that on their own.

p.s. - it's not imagery; it's real, it's infinite, it's eternal, and God created it all.

But what if the most sensitive device ever created isn't sensitive enough split the hair?

Monotheists are so narrow minded. Learn to think outside the box you have placed yourselves in.

Maybe WE created the hologram to protect ourselves from ourselves until we were mature enough. Maybe we are prisoners in an evil alien's hologram. Maybe the hologram is just another level of a Universe's evolution. Maybe in this particular Universe the hologram is a basic fundamental property. And other Universes are completely different.

I could go on and on (and Scifi writers generally do) but if it turns out we are in a "hologram" it would not necessarily prove anything of the sort.

What it would do would be to make the totality of Reality much larger than we thought it was...Again. Like it did when we realized that the Planet Earth was not at the Center of the Universe. Did that prove we were designed by a creator?

Some of the weirdest branches of them too.
