Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, August 26, 2014

Celebrations have erupted in Gaza as a long-term ceasefire agreed by Israel and the Palestinians went into effect, ending 50 days of the deadliest violence in a decade. The agreement, which came into effect late on Tuesday, involves an immediate halt to the violence in Gaza, which began on July 8 and has claimed the lives of 2,143 Palestinians and 69 on the Israeli side. The Palestinians said it was a "permanent" truce, while a senior Israeli official described it as "unconditional and unlimited in time."

CNN says Hamas used 80% of their rockets, so I guess it's time to reload.

Anyone want to place a gentleman's bet on who breaks the ceasefire? I'm betting on Hamas, before Hannukah.

And by "long term", we are talking about hours

I did think it was sort of funny for Hamas to be "celebrating" victory on the streets of Gaza today after agreeing to the exact same deal they were offered at the beginning of this disaster (for Gazans). I don't see how they gained anything except thousands of dead and destroyed homes, electrical plants, etc. They didn't even gain popular opinion around the world because they were firing rockets against the Israelis the entire time and people understand that if you attack you will be attacked.
The best thing that could happen would be for Gazans to realize Hamas will never bring them peace, prosperity, freedom.

NOAM CHOMSKY: It's a hideous atrocity, sadistic, vicious, murderous, totally without any credible pretext. It's another one of the periodic Israeli exercises in what they delicately call "mowing the lawn." That means shooting fish in the pond, to make sure that the animals stay quiet in the cage that you've constructed for them, after which you go to a period of what's called "ceasefire," which means that Hamas observes the ceasefire, as Israel concedes, while Israel continues to violate it. Then it's broken by an Israeli escalation, Hamas reaction. Then you have period of "mowing the lawn." This one is, in many ways, more sadistic and vicious even than the earlier ones.

If you don't celebrate, you're a jew collaborator.

Long term. Thats a Joke right?

The only use these peace deals to rearm the then attack again.

There entire reason for existing is the kill Jews you think a cease fire is going to be long term.

I don't expect it to last till the end of the week. If it does its because they don't have any rockets left.

Perhaps these American liberals will raise some more money so they can buy some more like they did last time.

>CNN says Hamas used 80% of their rockets, so I guess it's time to reload.

Its time for these stupid Americans to donate money and send to them so they can reload.

Let's just hope all cells agree. It only takes one trigger happy Israeli or Palestinian to blow the whole thing.

Disgusting.

But.

The public reaction would have been the same had the numbers been 2 million Palestinians and 1 Israeli.
