Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, August 24, 2014

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Northern California early Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It was the strongest to hit the San Francisco Bay Area since 1989, when a quake struck during the World Series. Social media users on Twitter posted their reactions under the #quake and #earthquake hashtags, such as this photo of a building in Napa's damage. "Our gas shutoff works. That's good. The house is trashed. Fortunately the bookcases missed us," tweeted Kate Schmidt.

If you live in an earthquake zone, stay away from brick and concrete. Wood and steel are wonderful building materials.

Woke me up a couple counties away. Big shake.

Lots of imperceptible little shakes afterwards.

Napa/Sonoma is going off.

This is clearly a sign of god's displeasure with man's activities. As this quake struck Napa, I can only assume that god is a muslim who disapproves of wine consumption.

CA has been through far worse.

Glad there were no deaths.

I guess it's because it's their livelihood or maybe it means there's no deaths or serious injuries which is all good but the coverage I've seen so far seems to be worried more about the lost wine than the people making it, selling it and drinking it.

like I say..maybe that's a good sign

Big Government WORKS. This was a really, really big quake. Smaller quakes than this have killed tens of thousands in other countries. Here, only a tiny few injuries, albeit with one child seriously injured who I hope and pray survives and recovers. This is thanks to tough California building codes, who nearly all Republicans would love to see scrapped -- especially the Ayne Rand Republicans.

Mneal...we were just talking about that. No one died and that is why we do have tougher earthquake standards. And they work. But, I wouldn't say tens of thousands usually die in a 6.1 (and I am seeing 6.0 reported). The most I see reported at that level are hundreds.

This was not a big one and definitely not the Big One. But, there will still be hundreds of millions in damage to clean up.

Can you imagine how many wine bottles broke today?

It would be nice if Nevada slid over top of California.
It'll happen one day.

Shake, rattle, and roll.

Now that I've left California and moved to Ohio, I kinda miss having a quake or two now and then. It was always exciting when they'd register a 5 or higher on the Richter scale.

If Jesus came back like he did before he might well go to Napa.

After all it's wine country. 8)
