Friday, August 22, 2014

A Florida man on Tuesday pleaded guilty in New York to criminal charges for concealing as much $1.1 million in offshore accounts. Bernard Kramer pleaded guilty to conspiracy and submitting false tax returns, stemming from a scheme that prosecutors said ran for a quarter century and involved an undeclared Swiss bank account he referred to as "Hot Lips." Kramer faces up to five years in prison on the top count against him and more than $600,000 in restitution and penalties.

Wow! These tax cheats get more brazen everyday. Before you know it, companies might hire people to help them dodge taxes...

If he stole a billion or a trillion a small fine would suffice.

$1.1 Million?

This is like printing a story about a guy who catches a sunfish in a lake full of record sized game fish.

In around March 2010 he arranged to move his money to a new, undeclared account at an Israeli bank

With friends like Israel, there is no need for enemies

Those offshore accounts aren't for the peons. You have to be a cronie to use them. How he got past the wink and butt-pat stage is beyond me.

Sully is right. This guy is small potatoes. Glad they got him though.

What kills me is that when FACTA was implemented they gave an extended amnesty period (that Mittens took advantage of) to report the bank accounts, pay the income taxes on three years and agree to report going forward instead of the draconian penalties that they have now.

This guy was either so greedy as to be blinded to that opportunity or too dumb to understand the consequences.
