As of Thursday, 76.8 percent of the 2,090 fatalities documented by the Gaza human rights organization Mizan have been civilians, according to the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz. The UN team's preliminary examination showed Wednesday that 71 percent of the fatalities -- 1,434 out of 1,999 -- are civilians. Fifty more civilian deaths were added to the list Thursday, including Hassan Younis, the 80-year-old father of Mizan director Issam Younis, and his wife. The couple died when 12 Israeli missiles were fired at a neighbor's home in the Tel Sultan neighborhood.

Dr. Atef Abu Saif, a political scientist at Gaza's Al-Azahar University, researched the impact of drones on life in Gaza. He found that the targets of Israeli missile attacks for years were determined not only by exact intelligence in the field, as the IDF claims, but by suspicious behavior. Examples included riding a motorcycle, associated with armed groups, or hanging out on roofs, associated with lookouts. Anwar Zaanin, a Mizan investigator, was killed in early August by a missile after riding a motorcycle to see if he could fix a water pipe in his home in Beit Hanun.

Hamas terrorists on Friday said they've shot and killed -- execution style -- 11 suspected informants who were accused of helping Israel with its recent airstrikes on a house in Gaza.

5 to 1 baby
1 in 5
No one here gets
Out alive
You get yours, baby
I'll get mine
Gonna make it, baby
If we try

The old get old
And the young get stronger
May take a week
And it may take longer
They got the guns
But we got the numbers
Gonna win, yeah
We're takin' over
Come on!

This whole argument is weak since they insist on firing their rockets from population centers. You can't take out a rocket laucher surounded by children without killing children. They must destroy the rocket launchers. Get over it already.

In that case the sensible thing to do is not to focus on the rocket launchers, but rather destroy the ones putting them near children, i.e. Hamas.
That's also the only thing that is going to stop it.
Palestinian suffering at the hands of Hamas doesn't seem to bother you, only Israeli suffering.
Despite the Palestinian suffering being much, much greater.

This has been a most excellent summer for rightwingers.

Aye-rabs slaughtered en masse by Israel, blacks gunned down like dogs in St. Louis...wow-eee!

I get the sense the only thing left on some of these 'wingers' wish-list would be open season on shooting liberals.

Well if it makes anyone feel better, at least a Hamas rocket murdered a four year old Israeli boy this morning near his home on a kibbutz.

What exactly is Israel supposed to do? Nothing? If this were to happen to us, we'd friggin' level the enemy, civilians be damned. Look what we did to the civilian population in Iraq. The double standard of so many of you is stark. Hamas is firing rockets, from civilian locations, with the intent of murdering Israelis. Of course Israel is going to respond with force!

Considering they have no military or armed forces, all casualties in Gaza were civilians.

all injured were civilians.

all that have been left without water or power are civilians.

all they have now is time.

to bury their dead.

and plan their vengeance.

One Israeli kid dies and Moder8 cries. hundreds of Palestinian kids die and Moder8 is angry at anyone critical of Israel.

What exactly is Israel supposed to do?

build more settlements on Palestinian land.

Level a few more blocks of Gaza with WMDs.

Murder Thousands of Palestinians.

Injure countless more.

Look what we did to the civilian population in Iraq.

Murdered them for absolutely no reason what so ever.

left them without working water or power.

left them in a state of chaos.

You're right.

The United States is no better than Israel.

Europeans killed the Native Americans and established the United Stated.

Europeans killed the Palestinians and established Israel.

I don't believe that was NuttiYahoos campaign slogan.

I think it was more like "a strong-armed leader for a strong-willed people".

You got it. What Israel needs to do is wipe Hamas from the face of the earth and erase them from the pages of history. Like we did to the Black Panther Party.

Do you know why they won't do it? A few hundred to a few thousand IDF soldiers will die. That's too big a cost, apparently, to rid yourself of an enemy sworn to your utter destruction.

These Zionists, they must really value Jewish life a lot, and non-Jewish life basically not at all.

Nice group of friends you've got there.

Hamas knows that there is little chance one of those rockets will reach an Israeli. They are trying to provoke Israel into shooting back. Hamas regards each dead Palestinian as a propaganda victory.

Anyone who doesn't like the idea of Israel shooting back should ask themselves what Ted Cruz would want done if Mexico shot rockets at the US.

I just watched a short BBC documentary on the real estate sector of Gaza. Those renting avoid where Hamas rocketeers rent for that very reason - they are basically a beacon for Israeli air force to missile. It's as if they are deliberately marking sections of real estate to wipe out entirely. And amazingly the regular civilians absolutely avoid them because they are highly aggressive to Palestinian civilians - people are terrified to interact with these alleged "Hamas rocketeers"... very much like Israeli use darker-skinned Sephardic Jews to perpetrate as Arabs. Identical tactic used for decades now, in fact.

So it's half and half................ Same problem in Viet Nam, the enemy didn't wear uniforms. Some were women and little kids.

I was under the impression for over a year now that lots of people on this site have Haaretz subscriptions. The articles are not usually viewable, so I rarely, if have ever linked to Haaretz, let alone have access to read their "information".

This makes a lot of sense now.

So, you are equating the civilians of Gaza as slaves? Hamas was voted in by the people. The Palestinian Authority called for an election, and Hamas, a radical Islamic organization labeled as a terrorist group by many countries, won a majority of seats in parliament.

If you want to stop being treated as an enemy, stop acting like one, especially to a nation that is far superior militarily than you are.

It's true there are many ways to rationalize treating civilians as the enemy.
It's also true that they're all wrong.

If you want to stop being treated as an enemy, stop acting like one

A statement that applies just as much to Israel as it does to Palestine. More, perhaps, if you compare body counts, be they civilian or military, or compare the number of Israeli squatters on Palestinian land (500,000) vs. the number of Palestinian squatters on Israeli land (zero).

So what? Is this one of those "elections have consequences" sort of things? Hey, Americans re-elected George W. Bush in 2004, after he invaded Iraq based on lies. I guess Iraqis are justified in attacking American citizens, according to you.
