Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, August 21, 2014

U.S. special operations forces early this summer launched a secret, major rescue operation in Syria to save James Foley and a number of Americans held by the extremist group ISIS, but the mission failed because the hostages weren't there, senior administration officials told ABC News. President Barack Obama authorized the "substantial and complex" rescue operation after the officials said a "broad collection of intelligence" led the U.S. to believe the hostages were being held in a specific location in the embattled Middle Eastern nation. "When we got there, they weren't there. We don't know why that is," a senior official said.

Of course he does. And if the mission had been successful he would have thought he had nothing to do with it.

'"When we got there, they weren't there. We don't know why that is," a senior official said.'

They're covering. What happened was that during the approach, Obama - who was texting the Dutch prime minister instead of paying attention - stepped on a twig and it alerted a loockout, who contacted the captors in time for them to bug out before the Americans got there.

I would hope that there are still efforts underway to rescue any Americans in any country that are being held. It should be an ongoing mission regardless of failures or press.

What we should NEVER do is negotiate or trade terrorists for people as it only enables more taking of hostages.

We should also probably NOT tip our hand by issuing public statements about how we tried to rescue Mr. Foley.

Foley, like Amb Stevens before him, strongly believed in what he was doing and is dead because he was willing to take known risks.

Kinda indicates to me that our intelligence services suck. I mean, after all, we could bring up the Al Qaeda students in flight training, the Boston bombings, Benghazi....well you know, the list goes on. How many intelligence services do we have anyway. DIA, CIA, NSA etc. I recommend we get rid of most of them and end up with one or two that are efficient. It's all just another prime example of our humongous, bloated, wasteful, inefficient federal government I guess.

Now that's preposterous. Snowden gave terrorist access to information and tactics for gaining that information. That knowledge has been specifically used by terrorist groups to circumvent US interference. I hope Snowden and all his fanboys are proud of the deaths that have resulted from his acts.

In reality Foley was captured because he was working in a warzone where some of factions take American hostages. And he was murdered because the particular faction that took him ended up the target of US military strikes.

I'm glad for the attempted rescue.

In discussing this issue in detail in the attempt to CYA, the administration gave valuable insight into how the rescue teams operate, so next time the E will know what to expect.

Why did they have to give details of the operation?

No, he was murdered because he was captured by a sub-human species of waste that should (and will) be absolutly & completely annihilated. Do you think they were just going to let him go if we didn't strike them? These sickos are barbaric. Watch the freaking videos of what they do to other muslimes.

Obama has a chance to actually lead for once in his career, and he would probably gain many supporters from the Middle East and Europeaan countries if he went after ISIS with some freaking balls. I am not holding my breath.

I think we should have bombed Assad before 200,000 people got killed, and ISIS would not exist today.

Call me an interventionist, or better yet, a freedom freak.

Syria deserves democracy, just like Libya and Egypt and Iraq and Afghanistan, etc....

Obamma wussed out because the polls where massively against it. If he had any backbone, we wouldn't be worrying about ISIS today.

And all it would have taken was air-strikes.

You do not know any such thing. The Iraqis did not negotiate and so the president adhered to the agreement put in place by his predecessor and left. Simple.

There is some truth this rant. It will take decades to clean up the mess from the Bush Error.

Iraq is not the problem. Syria is and Obama deferred this war decision to Congress and Congress elected not to bomb Assad.

Obama called for action in Syria but Congress did not support it.

Oh Please Texan! Obama drew the line. Said he would bomb. He had his finger on the trigger. He said, "Hold me back, hold me back!" So Congress held him back.

again...THE LEFT PROVES that ANYONE who dares to admit they don't have all information yet ,..that is a SIGN of weakness.....

I'M not the one confused about much of anything.....and I write DOWN to my audience....you want a research paper level entry every time, tell that to everyone,.......

BUT here is a perfect link to put this thing to rest......GOOD THING the white house announced they were AFTER these killers cause someone forgot to TELL THEM...................

On Wednesday, the White House leaked a classified special forces operation to rescue American hostages in Syria. The reason: political cover. The cost: so far, unknown.

But this much, we know: The politicized leak of this operation cut through the fog of war to let our enemies know exactly what happened that day in the desert, and because of that, future attempts to free American hostages will be more difficult to plan, farther between, and more dangerous to carry out.
