Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, August 20, 2014

Mark Levine and Gil Hochberg have written a response to the actor Jon Voight in Tikkun to his open letter on the Israel/Palestine conflict. Responding to Voight's description of the birth of Israel, they write, "This is the traditional narrative of Israel's birth, part of what Israeli historian Simha Flapan described as the 'myths' surrounding Israel in his famous 1987 book The Birth of Israel: Myths and Realities. However this is a distortion of the actual history. To begin with, when the British gained control over Palestine in the wake of World War I, they found a country in which the indigenous non-Jewish population outnumbered the still very small Zionist presence by a ratio of about 9 to 1. While the typical imagination of Palestine is as a backwards wasteland till Zionism and Jews 'revived' it, it was not empty, nor was it a 'land without a people for a people without a land.' Palestine's economy was in the midst of a rapid period of development in the late 19th century, one that was acknowledged by Zionist leaders as a primary reason why they could hope to establish a foundation in the country."

Read the entire letter.

Most of what people think about the history of the conflict is dead plain wrong. Almost all of what the fascist media tells us about it is garbage.

Why does anyone care what Joh Voight thinks about anything?

Because even idiots can make a point once in a while?

This site is living proof of that just about every day. Every now and again my bias is proven when I challenge myself to look for answers instead of thinking I already know them.

Interesting link, but when you call everything you don't like "fascist" it renders the term meaningless.

You are obfuscating again rcade. Calling a horse a horse matters when countering propaganda that continually tries to call it a pig.

Calling a pig a horse does not make it a horse.

Current events are strengthening the arguments put forward by people like you and Glenn Greenwald, Shawn. But you risk descending into caricature with the fascist fascist fascist stuff.

Fascist is jackboots at the door dragging somebody off in the night for criticizing the leader, never to be seen again. Fascist is a cop telling people "don't argue with me or I'll hurt you." It isn't Jon Voight and journalists exercising their free speech to push a narrative about Israel's founding that is contentious or inaccurate.

A nod is as good as a wink to a blind... well, you know.

RCADE

Excuse me? Is this not democracy in action. Y'know, Truth Justice and the American Way. It happens every day throughout the US.

Again you are just obfuscating. They aren't openly doing those things yet(they still have to plant the drug first), but calling the current system anything else is lying to yourself.

You are basically saying that because these things only happen in the shadows right now to people no one cares about(blacks/occupy wall st./walmart protestors/etc), that all is well. This is how the Nazis started too(only went after political adversaries, communists, etc).

Actually shawn, naxiism started and spread by popular public approval, not by coersion.

Germans were starving at the time and they didn't yet know that hitler would become obssessed with mass murder of what he percieved as non-aryans.

But Otoh, this is a good article. It clearly illustrates the misinformation campaign of the zionists, that most americans swallow hook, line and sinker.

Fascism is more than just brutality. It us purposeful for profit brutality. It is the merging of private and public interests (Corporate and Government policy) into an agenda which serves a minority. It is the privatizing for profit campaign, in the Justice and prison system. It is the privatization of education and power, water and sewage. It is the cancellation of usury and bankruptcy laws and reemergence of debtors prisons. It is the endless wasteful wars which severely undermine our economy. It is about a Medieval, "rentiers" economy, which serves inherited wealth. It is the State of our Nation today. We see it played out in public in Ferguson, while it plays out thousands of times a day privately, one obscure body at a time.

by Mark Levine and Gil Hochberg,

Are they both objective Z's or die hard Palestinians? Oddly the USA sheep accept that most Middle East reporting in the USA comes from Zs, when it should come from both, as the USA is made up of Jews and Muslims.
