Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Muhsen Abu Ramadan, director of the Arab Center for Agricultural Economic Development in Gaza, said that Israeli army completely destroyed 220 factories in the recent military campaign, while hundreds more suffered partial damage. He estimates the cost of destruction of agricultural land at around $200 million and the amount of the total costs to the economy at several billion dollars. "Israel is not only attacking civilians and their homes, but also systematically destroyed the economy of the Gaza Strip in order to make people dependent on emergency aid," Abu Ramadan said.

German journalist Martin Lejeune writes, "Tens of thousands have joined the ranks of the unemployed since the imposition of the harsh Israeli blockade in 2007, and given the scale of the damage suffered during the massive Israeli assault, of those who were still employed in industry and agriculture in July it is unlikely that more than a few thousand are still working in either sector. A few thousand out of 1.8 million people."

The family possesses no savings for the construction of a new workshop and they believe there is no hope for obtaining any kind of compensation for the estimated $450,000 in damages they have suffered.

So Israel was "compensating" families they displaced up until 2007. I wonder what happened to change that?

"In 2008 and 2012 the factory premises were already completely destroyed by the Israeli air force and our company has not received any kind of compensation, due to the law passed in 2007," Abu Eida said, referring to an Israeli law that defined Gaza as enemy territory and thus its residents ineligible for compensation through civil suits.

"law" disallows sheltering, clothing, feeding and caring for even the displaced children of Gaza - nearly 50% of the population they mercilessly bombed!? From everything the world has witnessed the Israeli would rather murder the entire people of Palestine rather than peacefully disarm Hamas. In fact, every strategy employed has been to disavow Hamas legitimacy while simultaneously blaming them for the Israeli invasion, many times without anyone's knowledge but the IDF.

Tens of thousands have joined the ranks of the unemployed since the imposition of the harsh Israeli blockade in 2007, and given the scale of the damage suffered during the massive Israeli assault, of those who were still employed in industry and agriculture in July it is unlikely that more than a few thousand are still working in either sector. A few thousand out of 1.8 million people.

"Israel is not only attacking civilians and their homes, but also systematically destroyed the economy of the Gaza Strip in order to make people dependent on emergency aid," Abu Ramadan argued.

"Now that almost the entire economy is destroyed, people can no longer work, thus cutting their purchasing power dramatically. Now youth wants to emigrate at even younger ages than before. Due to the emigration of young skilled workers the economy is becoming even weaker."

"Israel has managed to transform a functioning economy into a third world country through eight years of embargo and three assaults in five years. Without ending the embargo, it is impossible to break out of this vicious cycle ourselves," Abu Ramadan added.

What the United States most beloved "ally" does to non-military civilian-majority ARAB communities is shameful, immoral, illegal and deliberate. Each incursion proves the Israeli use anti-personnel weapons on civilians en mass. Even after international witness and victims prove IDF are lobbing white phosphorous into city centers in both Palestine and Lebanon we are witnessing representatives in the United States APPLAUD and send Israel more American taxpayer money to fund the Israeli aggression. When the IDF were missiling Lebanese families escaping on Israel designated routes policy-makers should have all instantly become aware of this bigoted game of the Israeli. When they missiled the United Nations building killing Americans our representatives still APPLAUD.

Our nation has been hijacked entirely by APAC interests.

What if NYC were attacked by Israel.. oh, say, flying planes into buildings, murdering thousands the citizens of the United States and blaming Palestine, would anyone wake up?

I was going to mention that too - Hillary is unabashedly an AIPAC puppet.

Rand evades the words "stop funding to Israel".

"In the period between the end of World War Two and Marshall's meeting with Truman [May 12, 1948], the Joint Chiefs of Staff had issued no less than sixteen papers on the Palestine issue. The most important of these was issued on March 31, 1948 and entitled "Force Requirements for Palestine." In that paper, the JCS predicted that "the Zionist strategy will seek to involve [the United States] in a continuously widening and deepening series of operations intended to secure maximum Jewish objectives." The JCS speculated that these objectives included: initial Jewish sovereignty over a portion of Palestine, acceptance by the great powers of the right to unlimited immigration, the extension of Jewish sovereignty over all of Palestine and the expansion of "Eretz Israel" into Transjordan and into portions of Lebanon and Syria. This was not the only time the JCS expressed this worry. In late 1947, the JCS had written that "A decision to partition Palestine, if the decision were supported by the United States, would prejudice United States strategic interests in the Near and Middle East" to the point that "United States influence in the area would be curtailed to that which could be maintained by military force." That is to say, the concern of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was not with the security of Israel- but with the security of American lives." -Philip Weiss
