A man carrying a gun at a bar in Helen, Georgia, accidentally discharged the weapon Saturday night, hitting and killing a Texas woman across the street. The incident took place outside the Old Heidelberg restaurant and bar. Glenn Patrick Lampien, 53, was wounded in the hand by the same bullet. A new law recently took effect in Georgia that greatly extended gun owners' rights to carry weapons in public places, including bars. Police said Lampien would be charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Idiot with a gun. Not much different than an idiot behind the wheel that kills someone except that the idiot behind the wheel causes more deaths per year than the idiot with the gun.

"Not much different than an idiot behind the wheel that kills someone except that the idiot behind the wheel causes more deaths per year than the idiot with the gun."

Only difference I can see is that driving enthusiasts don't push for laws that encourage drunk driving while firearm enthusiasts do push for laws that encourage people who are drinking to carry.

This tragedy could have been averted if the woman would have been carrying a firearm, so as to return friendly fire with friendly fire of her own.

I'm sure someone was shot in Chicago too, so this woman is not really dead.

Not much different than an idiot behind the wheel that kills someone ...

Most people behind the wheel need to drive. Very few people carrying a gun to a bar need that weapon. That's a pretty big difference.

Out here in the wild-west,I cross paths daily, with folks who have holstered guns, I get as far away from these fools as possible. I have NO WAY of knowing if they have severe mental problems are dangerous felons or just careless gun-nuts, with good intentions, who could kill or injure folks "accidentally" like this idiot in Georgia.

Sound, life saving advise, from Sammy in GUN CRAZY Arizona

I saw one at the same Lee, Florida, diner where I saw the car scrawled with a URL promoting a "great American slowdown":

www.drudge.com

If I'd been going into the diner when I saw it instead of going out, I would've picked another place to eat.

Have you seen the latest entry in that nut's blog? He's quite the armchair revolutionary.

So a woman is dead because some idiot didn't think he looked manly enough without a gun. I hope this poor lady didn't leave behind kids and a husband and parents and siblings but she probably did leave some part of those folks behind. Very sad.

She was 68, so good chance.

"The gun accidentally discharged, and the bullet traveled across Helen's tourist-laden Main Street and struck the woman in the side."

If you read the article instead of rcades leftist synopsis, it is obvious that the gun itself is the culprit and Mr. Lampian is a victim here as well as the deceased.I'm sure his attorney will hold the manufacturer responsible for the flaw in design that has brought so much trauma into his life.Negligent gun-smith could be another defense angle.

In all seriousness though the article lacks enough info to form an opinion either way.

What kind of a weirdo thinks a gun makes you manly? Oh, hey, Danni.

The motives you assign are interesting. I'd ask where you pull them from but we both already know.

What's "womanly" in your opinion?

Was this guy actually at the bar? Most articles say he was on a bench outside in the street.

Not that it matters much, he's still an idiot.

My sound and timely advise above, could very well save your life, or prevent serious bodily harm. When you cross paths with a armed gun-nut get as far away from the idiot as you can, AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.

No worries Sammy, there are laws on the books that's suppose to keep firearms out of your hands so you don't hurt people or yourself.

while firearm enthusiasts do push for laws that encourage people who are drinking to carry.

A bit of a broad brush there (a little disingenuous as well using the word encourage).

IIRC some states that have made it legal to carry in bars have also made it illegal to drink while doing so.

Jpw,the guy was outside the bar,all ready established. It doesn't matter if he was scratchting his balls. You control your weapon, christ he shot himself too.Unlike Sammy I'M not afraid of carriers but your gun will not shoot itself.Quit playing with it and it won't go off

I was actually pleased that they're charging him and not just blathering on about what a terrible, tragic "accident" this was.

"A bit of a broad brush there (a little disingenuous as well using the word encourage)."

I didn't say all firearm enthusiasts. I actually believe there is a silent majority of gun owners who are reasonable, responsible people. Its not my fault that they allow the crazies to speak for American gun owners. Its their choice to stay quiet.

"IIRC some states that have made it legal to carry in bars have also made it illegal to drink while doing so."

And the ones who don't have that stipulation have laws in place that encourages the drunk handling of weapons in public, just as I said. Nothing disngenuous about my saying so.

The problem with armed yahoos is that the gun is an extension of their dick. They always need to play with it or scratch it, or look down into the holster and make sure it's still there....always feel the need to show it to others, compare sizes, and sniff the barrel. They need to show up at airports for a cup of coffee while slinging it over their shoulder.

This tragedy is just the beginning...the nonsense is just insane.

Can we all stop with this stupid analogy. The automobile is a work tool for nearly the whole population. It has become indispensable for 90% individuals to correctly function in modern society. Try landing a job without a valid driving license. Now you go on right ahead and cross out that "driving license" and pencil in your gun permit number. Better yet, show up at an interview with that awesome open carry carry holster which can double for the office stapler in gun free zones.

Bruce, its just common sense, the further you are away from an armed gun-nut who is ready to kill or injure, the safer you are .. FACT. Weather they shot you on purpose or accidentally, matters not. The end results are the same.

#28 | Posted by SammyAZ_RI at 2014-08-19 04:36 PM | Reply | Flag:

If we do away with the ownership of hand guns and semi-automatic weapons, and only allow people to carry long, heavy 1776 vintage muskets, where you have to put the ball in, shove it down with the long stick, etc. the number of gun deaths would go way down. The U.S. Constitution gives us the right to bear arms, but private citizens are generally not allowed to carry grenades, bazookas or artillery pieces. Both hand guns and semi automatics fall into the same category.

You're crazy Sammy. With our expanded concealed carry law, I rarely see people open carry. When I carry, I carry concealed so as not to make people like you PYP.

Actually, IIRC this topic was covered in Heller.

But, as usual, anti-gun nuts act as if the 2nd amendment is unregulated to the extreme sense of the word.

You ever tried carrying an artillery piece?

I've seen cannons on ships. So, I think you might be a little wrong.

I am curious to see what happens when "arms" begins to mean things like EMP pulse generators, rail guns, lasers that blind, or that LRAD thing that can burst your eardrums; and not so much chemical propulsion mass driver systems. And when technology exists to intercept a lead projectile with another projectile in real time; your own personal Iron Dome.
