Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A 91-year-old who heroically saved a Jewish boy from the Nazis in 1943 is giving back the award he received from Israel after six relatives of his grandniece's Palestinian husband were killed in Gaza last month. In a letter to the Israeli ambassador to the Netherlands, Henk Zanoli wrote, "My sister lost her husband, who was executed in the dunes of The Hague for his involvement in the resistance. My brother lost his Jewish fiancee who was deported, never to return. Against this background, it is particularly shocking and tragic that today, four generations on, our family is faced with the murder of our kin in Gaza. Murder carried out by the State of Israel."

Around 2,000 people were killed in Gaza by Israeli military attacks, many of them civilians, during the conflict with Hamas that began last month. The New York Times reports that "Zanoli transformed over the decades from a champion to a critic of the Israeli state, mirroring a larger shift in Europe, where anguish over the slaughter of six million European Jews led many to support the founding of Israel in 1948 as a haven for Jews worldwide."

Zanoli told the paper, "I gave back my medal because I didn't agree with what the state of Israel is doing to my family and to the Palestinians on the whole." He said that his decision was a statement "only against the state of Israel, not the Israeli people."

Clearly, as with all critics of Israeli polices, this man must be an anti-Semite. There can be no other explanation.

I was going to post this myself, but didn't know how to succinctly express his statement in the number of characters allotted.

Israel has become what Nazi Germany was. I'd tell that to Abe Foxman to his face.

You forgot 'potential terrorist'. Like journalists who report on this stuff.

I wonder what will happen to the security of the nukes when Israel has to move the colonists inside of it's borders? That's a whole lot of crazy for such a tiny "country".

The majority of the 60 billion in yearly aid is wasted on implanting these colonists.

Israel is not a democracy, and I don't really believe that it ever could be.
