Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, August 14, 2014

David Swanson, Washington's Blog: A George Will column this week, reviewing a book by Ken Hughes called Chasing Shadows, mentions almost in passing that presidential candidate Richard M. Nixon secretly sabotaged peace talks that appeared likely to end the war on Vietnam until he intervened. As a result, the war raged on and Nixon won election promising to end the war. Will treats the matter as a technicality, citing the law against private diplomacy rather than the principle that one shouldn't undermine a government's attempts to halt an episode of mass murder.

Back in the day when Nixon claimed to have a "secret plan" to get us out of Vietnam I said he was a liar and that he would continue the war another four years. Now I have proof.
BTW, remember another Republican who had a "secret plan" to get us out of Iraq? Isn't he the guy who has been constantly meddling in foreign policy, even meeting with who we now know as ISIS? Why hasn't he been charged with a crime? Why hasn't he been loudly condemned by all sides?
How long before Reagans treason is also proven? It's coming. All the Republican Presidents since Nixon have been corrupt traitors. All!

Guess this is just a little to hard to spin for Republicans who have called this a "conspiracy theory" all these years. It ought to make them question their other beliefs because they have been led by traitors but it won't.

It is pretty sad/funny that we get all these conspiracy theorists around here, right and left, but historical conspiracies like these are not interesting for them.

It is historically important, but also known and the criminal in question is long dead. Kind of defines "beating a dead horse." Same with Reagan and his treason.

There are far more pressing issues currently happening for me to get outraged over this right now.

Today's Republicans are links in the same chain Nixon started, look at the obstructionism of anything that could conceivably help our economy, how is that not seditious? How about the meeding GOP leaders had on Obama's first inauguration day where they decided to block any and all legislation designed to help our economy because that might reflect well on Obama? I'm just sorry but both parties are not the same, one is treasonous.

"In his book The China Threat, Washington Times correspondent Bill Gertz describes how the system worked. Defense contractors eager to sell technology to China poured millions of dollars into Clinton's campaign. In return, Clinton called off the dogs. Janet Reno and other counterintelligence officials stood down while Lockheed Martin, Hughes Electronics, Loral Space & Communications and other U.S. companies helped China modernize its nuclear strike force.

"'We like your president. We want to see him reelected,' former Chinese intelligence chief General Ji Shengde told Chinagate bagman Johnny Chung.

"Indeed, Chinese intelligence organized a massive covert operation aimed at tilting the 1996 election Clinton's way.

"Clinton's top campaign contributors for 1992 were Chinese agents; his top donors in 1996 were U.S. defense contractors selling missile technology to China.

"Clinton recieved funding directly from known or suspected Chinese intelligence agents, among them James and Mochtar Riady who own the Indonesian Lippo Group; John Huang; Charlie Trie; Ted Sioeng; Maria Hsia; Wang Jun and others."

Aiding China for campaign money is pretty bad too.

"The Clinton administration was intimately involved in sowing the seeds of the devastating financial crisis that would hit the U.S. housing market and banking industry in 2008. As early as 1993, Clinton's first year in office, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros and Attorney General Janet Reno expressed dismay over reports that the rejection rate of black mortgage applicants nationwide was considerably higher than that of their white counterparts. In response, Reno warned that thenceforth "no bank" would be "immune" to an aggressive Justice Department campaign to punish such "discrimination" in the lending market. For emphasis, then-Assistant Attorney General Deval Patrick pledged to work for the elimination of all racial disparities in mortgage-lending rejection rates.

It should be noted that the aforementioned disparities were not actually due to discrimination of any kind. Instead, they reflected the realities of borrowers' credit-worthiness, as determined by such objective factors as credit history, debt burden, income, net worth, age, and education.

But instead of permitting these facts to change their outlook on the issue of mortgage lending, the Clinton White House moved ahead with its crusade to inject new energy into the so-called Community Reinvestment Act of 1977, which, according to President Clinton, had failed to live up to its potential as a vehicle for increasing minority homeownership. Thus began the government policy of forcing lenders, under threat of severe sanctions, to make subprime loans to high-risk borrowers who failed to meet traditional loan criteria. It was a policy guaranteed to create a crisis. Eventually, it did."

Nice job Bill.

IMO, those deals with China are the only thing maintaining our positive relations with China. They are not our enemy. If they were, they would take us out financially. It's been a mutual benefit.

Why is China demonized so badly when we must rely on them so significantly?

You're trying to turn this into a discussion about Clinton, start a new thread for that, this thread is about Nixon's treason and the FACT that subsequent Republican President also committed treason and that folks like you voted for them and will do so again. There simply is no accountability among Republicans.

Translation for this blog : Every Republican President is a criminal or has criminal history in the family. And every Democrat President can do no wrong and could solve every problem in the US if the GOP congress wasn't in the way.

"A List of Lying-Treasonous US Presidents from the past 50 Years:"

There is no evidence of treason on the level committed by both Nixon, Reagan and perhaps G.W. Bush by any of the others listed. There is a difference between making poor judgements and actually sabotaging peace talks that cost America 25,000 soldier's lives. You can pretend Clinton was the Devil Incarnate but it is b.s. to pretend he did anything on the order of Nixon, Reagan or Bush.

The proof of Nixon's treason is an email he sent to Ho Chi Min in 1967. Other emails from the same period detailed Bush's AWOL status from the National Guard.

Tapes from the LBJ library have a conversation between LBJ and Dirkson (Repub Senate Leader) where LBJ says Nixon has committed treason and Dirkson acknowledges it. LBJ didn't want it to become public, warned Dirkson to tell Nixon to back off.

Nixon knew that if he let Johnson end the war and bring the troops home Humphrey would have been elected President. Most of America loved Johnson until that stupid war ruined him. I believe he regretted it for the rest of his life, he was rarely seen in public after leaving the WH.

"Obsession with 'everything GOP bad, everything DEM good' is comical."

For me it all started with Nixon's cynical lie that he had a plan to get us out of Vietnam. I told everyone I knew at the time it was a lie, which it did indeed turn out to be. Successive Republican Presidents have proven themselves to be equally cynical as Nixon; Reagan with his treasonous deals with the Ayatollah before he was elected, Bush 1 with his Persian Gulf War which his was trumped up with stories of babies on bayonets and worse, then Dubya with his unnecessary war and occupation of Iraq. Carter, Clinton and now Obama weren't perfect, far from it, but none took us into real wars involving thousands of troops on the ground or made deals with our enemies before they were even elected. I may seem to believe "everything GOP bad, everything DEM good," but I'm not so simple, I have real, valid reasons to believe that this country has been seriously harmed by the last few Republican Presidents and sorry but I haven't yet read a post that can make an equal case against the last few Democratic President. Yes, LBJ took us into Vietnam but he also had negotiated a peace treaty with the N. Vietnamese to get us out of that hell hole which Nixon cynically destroyed before he was elected. Then LBJ left office contrite and basically exiled himself to his ranch in Texas for the rest of his life, he knew he had made a terrible error in judgement and was never really heard from again.
