Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, August 14, 2014

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh argued Tuesday that Robin Williams committed suicide because of his "leftist world view." "[Liberals] are animated in large part by the false promises of America, because the promises of America are not for everyone," he said. "He had it all, but he had nothing. Made everybody else laugh, but was miserable inside. It fits a certain picture or a certain image that the left has."

Limbaugh's rightist world view did not stop him from abusing Oxycontin and getting arrested on drug charges.

In 2006, Limbaugh was charged with illegally obtaining large amounts of Oxycontin through "doctor shopping." Prosecutors had evidence Limbaugh received 2,000 painkiller pills, prescribed by four doctors in six months, at a pharmacy near his Palm Beach, Florida, mansion.

He reached a deal to drop the charge without a guilty plea if he completed drug treatment.

A worthy contribution as "happy thought of the day".

Who couldn't have figured out that this would be Rush's take before he actually said it?

To me, true irrelevance is achieved when you become so thoughtless and predictable that everyone knows what your "opinion" is going to be on any given topic before you do.

It's difficult to actually recognize your own depression while on Oxycontinin, Rush is lucky he didn't accidentally overdose a few years ago. The stupidity of anyone that still listens to that piece of garbage is mind boggling.

I don't understand Limbaugh's audience. You'd think a tirade like this one was so completely lacking in self awareness and mean spirited that it would turn off most people, even right wing dittoheads.

Limbaugh doesn't hide the fact that he's an empty, sad, embittered human being. He puts it on display with comments like this and the ones he aimed at Michael J. Fox when he physically mocked his Parkinson's.

If anyone is a poster child for misery, it isn't the late Robin Williams, who brought joy to people's lives in countless performances and public appearances. It's Limbaugh. I'd feel pity for him if he wasn't so lacking in simple human compassion.

Rush can only see out of his right eye, just as some here can only see out of the left. It's a disorder of the partisan gland being squeezed by an enlarged prostate.

"I don't understand Limbaugh's audience."

How much of his audience is rural where nobody else is on the radio talking the same issues as Limbaugh? Where I live, he's it. (unless you listen to satellite).

I'm sure many listen to him where I live because they like him....but a lot just love the issues and they have to go to him for it.

Rush has some things right and some things wrong---Williams had significant depression and that was his basic issue. He was so depressed that he gave money to depressing people like Boxer, Pelosi, and Franken. He gets it right when he infers lefties are generally just unhappy people who subconsciously want to make everyone else unhappy. They're bitter and don't want well adjusted people to continue to live those types of lives so they invent activist programs with the attempted purpose of bringing everyone else down to their level of bitterness and gloom. They tend to hang together since those with any sense of normalcy find it too depressing to be around them. You really got to have some compassion for these folks since it must be a terrible existence to live in their skin.

That's the message I take from a recent book by James Gilligan, a psychiatrist at New York University. In Why Some Politicians Are More Dangerous than Others, Gilligan documents a striking statistical connection between changing rates of violent death in the United States over the past century and the party of the president. He concludes that Republican administrations are "risk factors for lethal violence," and that the only reason they have not produced "disastrously high epidemic levels" of suicides and homicides is that Democrats have repeatedly undone their damage. (I've added handsome hand-coloring to Gilligan's key figure in order to highlight the partisan pattern.)

The thing is, Limbaugh is saying this to an audience that is inclined to believe it already.
Not just because he's saying it, but also because he's got them trained to think in a certain way.

For the rest of us, it's stale fodder, with no nutritive value, save that of stale entertainment.
Hearing that Limbaugh said something bone-headed is like hearing that Lindsay Lohan got drunk.
Hell, the TV news could have a daily mention, right between barometric pressure and dew point.

the PRESCRIPTION drug charges have not ONE BIT of relevance to any of this...and how typical you post those before a single comment...asinine..

HERE are quotes from this show that just HAPPENED to be left out..

again,..typical.,..

"But I don't think that the politics is driving it. I think there was, on the part of media and Hollywood, genuine affection for the guy that is driving it, but there is politics," he said. "If you notice the coverage is focused on how much he had, but it wasn't enough."

and in education, we aren't asked..we're ORDERED to watch CAREFULLY for any student who we think might be seeing the coverage and the outpouring of love and attention towards the victim and who we think might have even an inkling of an idea to do the same........but AGAIN..that truth just gets in a liberal's way when they're quoting TRASH like media matters and leaving some things out.....

......."The thing I worry about, I really do, they're making such heroism out of this that I hope it doesn't inspire a lot of copycats by people seeking the same kind of fame," he said. "To kill yourself is one way to get the media to spend a lot of time talking about you, if you want to be talked about."

BTW so do France and Cuba, with Norway (the perfect progressive state) being just slightly less than 'Merica.

First thing to assess would be if generally unhappy people become liberals or if buying into liberalism makes people unhappier.

Killing yourself wont suddenly make you famous unless you already were famous. People off themselves all the time. No one hears about it. No one suddenly gets famous because of it. It is just another sad suicide.

By the way, now he claims his comments were taken out of context by the left-wing media. Again. I can't believe his fans are always falling for his crap.

#5 ~ "I am absolutely shocked...Shocked, I tell you."

Me, too, i mean, this is exactly what you'd expect Limbaugh to say, and what his target audience wants to hear. As folks reach the furthest ends of BOTH sides of the political spectrum, they become callous & even celebratory when someone of notoriety from the opposing viewpoint dies, or particularly, commits suicide.

Limbaugh was & will always be a consummate hypocrite for advocating the death sentence for users of street heroin while addicted to the prescription pain killer oxycontin; and this SHOULD be pointed out every time he opens his big fat mouth.

#44 | POSTED BY AFKABL2

You are so naive. It's called self-medication and many resort to it because they do not have access to expensive psychiatry or pharmaceuticals (i.e. HEALTH CARE!):

Recent clinical observations and psychiatric diagnostic findings of drug-dependent individuals suggest that they are predisposed to addiction because they suffer with painful affect states and related psychiatric disorders. The drugs that addicts select are not chosen randomly. Their drug of choice is the result of an interaction between the psychopharmacologic action of the drug and the dominant painful feelings with which they struggle. Narcotic addicts prefer opiates because of their powerful muting action on the disorganizing and threatening affects of rage and aggression. Cocaine has its appeal because of its ability to relieve distress associated with depression, hypomania, and hyperactivity.
ajp.psychiatryonline.org

For others who are not poor, like Robin Williams with his cocaine addiction, illicit drugs are the only things they know for sure helps: "'Cocaine for me was a place to hide,' Williams told People in 1988. 'Most people get hyper on coke. It slowed me down.'" www.thedailybeast.com

Zero sympathy or empathy for issues that don't affect them directly.

If it's not a problem for THEM, it's not a problem for ANYONE.

Any efforts to address problems which aren't their own are just liberal big-government plots to take away blah blah blah...
