Scientists have shown that human skulls changed in ways that indicate a lowering of testosterone levels at around the same time that culture was blossoming. Heavy brows were out, rounder heads were in. Technological innovation, making art and rapid cultural exchange probably came at the same time that we developed a more cooperative temperament by dialing back aggression with lower testosterone levels.

Modern humans appear in the fossil record about 200,000 years ago, but it was only about 50,000 years ago that making art and advanced tools became widespread.

A new study appearing Aug. 1 in the journal Current Anthropology finds that human skulls changed in ways that indicate a lowering of testosterone levels at around the same time that culture was blossoming.

"The modern human behaviors of technological innovation, making art and rapid cultural exchange probably came at the same time that we developed a more cooperative temperament," said lead author Robert Cieri, a biology graduate student at the University of Utah who began this work as a senior at Duke University.

I suppose it was when man started to come out of living day to day like an animal to having a broader view of their surroundings that things changed.
Probably the first thing they noticed was the movement of the stars and started to figure them out.

"The Duke study argues that living together and cooperating put a premium on agreeableness and lowered aggression."

I.e. they killed or exiled the mean people. Either that, or stuck them on the front lines. It's also plausible that some of them, not being very interested hanging out and doing arts and crafts, tended to do more hunting and pillaging, which often led to their demise.

- Heavy brows were out

So, rwingers were becoming extinct... what happened?

Nonsense. If low testosterone equals improved technology skills, Aflac would be a rocket scientist.

This is an iffy assertion. Without the "aggressive males" to reduce the number of top predators during the 150,000 year before, no technological evolution would have taken place or at least it would have been limited.

You do realize that he got one of his academy awards for writing, don't you?

I'm of the opinion that we domesticated ourselves through natural selection with the rise of religion. Today, people still have the traits of domesticated animals: the size of our hands and feet, the oversized head, and the lack of body hair.

Modern man is a domesticated archaic human.

You missed curly tails and droopy ears.

You've obviously never read any of his posts here.

Have long agreed with the exact premise in number 7. Unfortunately, another trait of domestication is reduced brain size.

It's gotten really common for fighters to take testosterone replacement therapy once they are "past their prime", particularly the heavy weights. It seems to add another 5 to 10 years to their careers.

Another interesting testosterone myth is no sex before a fight. Lack of nookie causes testosterone levels to decline. The guy getting laid has a biological advantage.
