Sixty six of the 83 tickets written for marijuana violations in Seattle were issued by a single cop, according to a new biannual report on marijuana law enforcement issued by the Seattle police department. The cop added notes to some tickets that called City Attorney Peter Holmes "Petey," declared the state of Washington's voter-enacted changes to marijuana laws as "silly" and said the cop flipped a coin when deciding who to cite. The unnamed officer has been taken off patrol as the matter is investigated.

Thirty seven percent of marijuana tickets went to black people, who account for only 8 percent of the city's population. Forty one percent of those given tickets lived in low-income housing or were homeless.

I really wish people here would read The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness. Michelle Alexander used Seattle as a prime example of the systemic racism taking place within our criminal justice system.

This story and an accompanying study (seattletimes.com) solidifies Seattle as a prime example. If this can be taking place in the liberal bastion of Seattle, WA, just imagine where else it could be taking place.

One other thing, guess who was police chief in Seattle during the time Alexander did her research....yup, B. Hussein Obama's personally selected Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske. Thank god he has been repositioned. Hopefully, that's a sign that B. Hussein Obama is actually willing to make some significant changes within the CJS before he leaves office.

That's a fleeting hope, however, considering B. Hussein's lack of interest in CJS reform in general.

I believe his employment as a police officer should be up for public vote. This is the kind of institutional corruption that exemplifies an extreme bias, a blatant prejudice overpowering his sense of legal obedience. Can he be "de-trained", or ever really gain the public's trust? Keeping him on as a taxpayer subsidized service doesn't do justice to this growing marijuana business community of taxpayers and consumers.

Word on the street here in Seattle, is that the cop in question is one that follows teahadist beliefs and is religiously insane. He needs to be taken off the force as he clearly abuses his limited authority.

Chief says "Please know that officers who perform professional and constitutional police service and enforcement will always have my full support."

She never said what happens to those that do not perform such service. Are they prosecuted and fired, or always given another chance after a slap on the wrist? Malfeasance by those entrusted to serve us should not be given such discretion by those who claim to serve us.

The public should be selected (just like jurors) to anonymously and serve with a limited term on police disciplinary panels. That would give the power of oversight to the people where it belongs.

The best way to get rid of bad laws is to fully enforce them.

Seattle is a huuuuuuuuuuuugggggee city, people. 83 tickets is a tiny number. All this reads as to me is "One cop (sort of)did his job consistently, others let pot slide."

He flipped a coin; other cops let it go nearly one hundred percent of the time. If you don;t like the laws, get them changed.

It's really that simple. To demonize a half-lazy cop as compared to the grand majority of totally lazy cops is idiotic. He kinda did his job. Everyone else just blew it off entirely.

Whether you personally agree that pot should be legal isn;t actually the issue here. People who are paid with your tax dollars are taking it upon themselves to decide based on their own personal predilections what laws should be enforced and what shouldn't. Would you care if the Seattle cops had been similarly lazy in hunting down pedophiles?

Most of you give a crap about pot because you like to get high, but won't lift a finger to actually change the laws. You'd rather call cops "pigs" for (sort of) enforcing the law.

Sure Agent Fox. I guess that is why cannabis laws are finally changing across the country. Because no one is lifting a finger.

Now...I have a finger I would like to lift for you.

Idiotic projection outs you as an idiot. Thing is, it makes you feel more comfortable thinking that all us REFORMERS are lazy, do nothing pot smokers that want nothing more than to get high. Reality proves (California, Washington, Colorado, and all other legal marijuana states) you have your head in the sand and WE are ahead of the curve. There are more people like DONNERBOY and me than you would like to admit. Scary times, isn't it OLD MAN?!

Enjoy your "alcohol and tobacco only" society while it lasts.

Finally SOHEIFOX, from this single issue (CJS reform) voter, here's another (thanks DONNER) finger lifted specifically for you:
