Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Aaron Blake, Washington Post: A new Pew Research Center poll is the second in the past week to show a huge generational split on the current conflict in Gaza. While all age groups north of 30 years old clearly blame Hamas more than Israel for the current violence, young adults buck the trend in a big way. Among 18 to 29-year olds, 29 percent blame Israel more for the current wave of violence, while 21 percent blame Hamas. Young people are more likely to blame Israel than are Democrats, who blame Hamas more by a 29-26 margin. Even liberal Democrats are split 30-30. The only other major demographic groups who blame Israel more than Hamas are African Americans and Hispanics.

That is sad. Are they Hamas? I've always suspected that Hamas are actually Israeli collaborators importing rockets through their vastly untouched tunnel network. Someone recently remarked how well-constructed they are and questioned how amazing that Palestinians are able to use such scarce supplies so surreptitiously.

I think we know why.

Probably a direct correlation between blaming Israel and knowledge of the Holocaust. As a youth, I was fairly thoroughly familiarized with the evils perpetrated upon the Jewish people and it favorably colors my interpretation of Israel's actions to this day.

Sucks for the Palestinians, though, who had little to nothing to do with those NAZI WWII atrocities.

What difference does a poll make? The American people have no say anyways, the feds are going to do what they want to do.

This just confirms what I already knew, people under 30 are idiots and easily manipulated through propaganda.

How're those Iraqi WMDs working out for you?

the under 30 generation are more media saavy, that is, they are not rooted to traditional forms of mass media, and that is why they are more likely to accidentally stumble upon the truth. they also don't buy into the whole christian zionist p.o.v that has many americans convinced that america must support israel in order to usher in the end times...

and anyway, this isn't about hamas-- hamas is relatively new to the whole situation--it's about zionism and the native people it has terrorized and oppressed over the past 70+ years. hamas is simply the zionist doppelganger that follows it around until it is no more. when zionism dies, so too will hamas and its ilk...

The Congress gave Netanyahu eight standing ovations last time he visited.
Next time he visits it will be ten standing ovations and a twenty one gun salute.

It's funny. The Republicans have no Jewish members, yet they support Israel unequivocally. Why? They clearly disliked Eric Cantor.

Every last one of those prosperity Christians should be removed from office. The Israel they support unconditionally is a Zionist program of ethnic cleansing.

They couldn't find Israel on a map. They couldn't name the Prime Minister of Israel. But they could tell you 5 guys who slept with the Kardashians.

I ignore Americans under 30. And most of the ones over 30 too. So should Bibi.

#11 My 18 year old could tell you who the prime minister of Israel is could find it on a map could point to the part of Israel that is Gaza. She can find the Ukraine on a map can point to the region of Ukraine that is the Crimean. She can also tell you way more about the Kardashians than you would ever want to know.

Being aware of pop culture does not preclude awareness of the world.

And what you "knew" is wrong.

People under 30 are just less religious. And without loyalty to the sky fairy who says that chunk of the mideast is jesus' landing strip, there's no reason to fight over it.

For the most part #11 is accurate. Now perhaps your daughter is more in tune to world events and as such maybe she can point out to you, that no part of Israel is Gaza.

#18 | Posted by TXLIBERTARIAN at 2014-07-30 11:41 AM | Reply | Flag:

Technically true TX but if you look at the map Israel encloses Gaza so from a world map perspective it is "in Israel". No it is not part of Israel thank you for your correction.

As far as 11 yes and no I have met quite a few teens/20's through my daughter and while they are not terribly informed about the world they are not as clueless as you presume. They also realize that they have no say in the government and most of the ones I know are too busy working 2 jobs 60 hours a week plus going to school to take time to "fight the man"

Let's be VERY clear here, there are no good guys in that part of the world.

But the current mess is absolutely Israel's fault. They started it, they're making it worse, and it seems that their current strategy is ethnic cleansing bordering on genocide.

What the Nazis did to jews is horrific. It should never be repeated.

The Israeli purge of Palestinians is ongoing. That the Nazis did evil things to jews in WWII does not give Israelis the right to do evil things to Palestinians in 2014.

The current mess is because both sides use arbitrary points to say it started here and uses past acts to justify current ones against people unrelated to the transgressions. Each side, by their very acts, guarantees more acts to come.

Netenyahu was pooh-poohing the idea before Obama even announced it. He had no interest from the jump.

This is why Israel is losing the American public.

Time after time, same results.

The reason that people under 30 don't believe the propaganda that tells them that Israel can do no wrong is an increasing number don't watch television, or at least have alternate sources.

The rest of the world doesn't believe all the fascist garbage because they don't have the American fascist media crammed down their throats every hour of every day.

this thread wouldn't have properly kicked off -- let alone be considered complete -- without some geezers shouting at the kids to "get off my lawn!"; thankfully, that's no longer a concern.

it's a proper thread, guys!

now it's time for the old geezers to justify why tossing even more billions per annum at the expansionist netanyahu regime is a good idea.

good luck!

I don't justify it. But it's not the over-30 crowd that made Justin Beiber famous. These kids are uninformed, broke, and have no experience in much of anything, just as I was back then. So why should I care what they say about anything?

It pains me to say it but Beiber can sing unlike so many BS pop stars these days. He might be a huge bag female cleansing product but that doesn't mean he doesn't have talent.

So maybe not the best the under 30 crowd is stupid reference.
