Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, July 27, 2014

From inside the California jail where he is awaiting sentencing, Michael Vilkin said that he would not change anything about the day he shot and killed his unarmed neighbor John Upton in a dispute over cutting down Brazilian pepper-trees in their Encinitas neighborhood in 2013. "I'm not a kind of person who, if you spit in my face, I will not ... just turn around and leave," Vilkin, 62, told 20/20. "And Upton was, figuratively speaking, spitting in my face the whole year." A jury found him guilty of murder after he shot Upton in the midsection and head while he was outside on Vilkin's driveway. Vilkin claimed he thought Upton, 56, was armed, but the jury did not buy that defense.

"No, he did not [raise a hand at me]. But I was afraid of him, really afraid because he was roaring at me, he was yelling at me," Vilkin said. "He acted like a gangster, like a tough guy, like a Mafioso. I believe that he was a Mafioso."

This what happens to those who don't understand tolerance and a culture of turning the other cheek. He even said to paraphrase that his culture is to get even many times over as do the Israelis.

Hey at least he won't have to worry about shrubbery ever again.

It might be cost effective for our government to launch a national ad campaign that informs people that you aren't allowed to shoot people simply because you are scared.

Isn't that exactly what SYG is? Shoot if you're scared?

It just proves, once again, you can get yourself killed for being an -------. Especially if you are arguing with a pychopath.

No, that's self-defense.

SYG is "running away is optional".

And that would include those who allegedly serve and protect us too? Too many in society seem to believe they have a right go off the deep end and shoot people and pets just because they are afraid. Maybe that is the outcome of a long term media and government concerted effort to make us scared of our shadow.

"And that would include those who allegedly serve and protect us too?"

They don't need the advice. They are already above consequences.

Headline revision needed: what about the GUN! Surely was an assault weapon! Oh - and hopefully add NRA member?

The shooter was just exercising his second amendment rights. Move along, nothing to see here.
