Jihadists in Iraq have ordered that all women between the ages of 11 and 46 must undergo female genital mutilation, which could affect up to four million women and girls in the war-ravaged country, a UN official said Thursday. The UN's second most senior official in Iraq, Jacqueline Badcock, said, "It is a fatwa (or religious edict) from ISIS, we learnt about it this morning. We have no precise numbers."

The Islamic State, formerly known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), took over large swathes of the country last month and has begun imposing its extreme Salafist interpretation of Islam.

Badcock said that if you took UN population figures as a guide, around "four million girls and women could be affected."

It's called, Islamic State. Get your tickets now, head on over for your cosmetic surgery and join the screamin' masses of burqa-clad, ----------- citizens. You'll love it there!

I was going to say "Ooh, perfect thread for some fool to come in here and make the incredibly stupid 'If you don't unconditionally support Israel, you support every bad thing done in the name of Islam' strawman argument."

But I see I'm too late. Early bird gets the worm.

This edict would seem like a good way of motivating those who are not religious lunatics to rise up and kick ISIS to the curb. If ISIS actually issued this fatwa, their @$$ is grass.

Thank God the BushJr administration wasted trillions (that's trillions, a number which conservatives don't seem to comprehend) on destabilizing Iraq and killing Sadam!

For absolutely NO reason.

Now the country is completely in chaos and the only man keeping the nation under his thumb is dead.

Now Islamic extremists are ravaging the country, murdering and mutilating as they travel. (Murdering men and women and children of all religious faiths they deem unworthy).

Now we have Jest, a proud BushJr sycophant, trying to create strawmen in order to excuse his Persident's actions.

Tragic.

"If ISIS actually issued this fatwa, their @$$ is grass."

ISIS DID INDEED issue this fatwa, I read it and heard it on several radio news broadcasts. Now that we know their @$$es are grass, who's gonna mow it for them? Certainly not any peaceful, tolerant, understanding, compassionate "progressives" like our little friends in this country. However, maybe we can get them to go on an apology tour, bow and scrape, provide more and bigger monetary support, become more "flexible," and blast Israel a little harder.

LOL...says clownshack while HIS messiah fund raises at a blinding pace everywhere except the White House while war rages in Syria, Sudan, Gaza, Ukraine, and yes, Libya, while we have a crisis on our border, while the V.A. "phoney scandal" rages on, while new "phoney scandal" info regarding the IRS appears almost daily, while Obamacare takes a big hit in court, and you try to convince us tranquility reigns all over due to his policies. If it wasn't so damn tragic I'd be laughing my own @$$ off. The fact that "useful fools" like you and others praise him and spin all the corruption, ineptness, and failure to the max. Simply unbelievable.

Doesn't take anything away from the Israeli/Hamas situation. But it does put it in perspective.

But as the rockets and bombs fall, a deadlier war next door rolls on. The Syrian civil war has claimed 170,000 lives in three years; this past weekend's death toll in Syria was greater than what took place in Gaza. By some accounts, the past week may have been the deadliest in the conflict's grim history. Meanwhile, the extremist insurgents of the Islamic State (also known as ISIS), have continued their ravages over a swath of territory stretching from eastern Syria to the environs of Baghdad, Iraq's capital; the spike in violence in Iraq has led to more than 5,500 civilian deaths in the first six months of this year.

Given the atrocities being committed in the name of Islam at this time, I find the focus on Israel/Hamas situation to be fascinating. It shows a warped myopic sense of reality and proportionality.

"If ISIS actually issued this fatwa, their @$$ is grass."

There doesn't seem to be a fighting force in Iraq capable of standing up to them. The sensible Iraqis should drag Malaki out of his office and turn him over to ISIS if he refuses to resign, then hopefully they could unite with a new Prime Minister who would promise to lead all the people and to treat all the people the same. They should welcome Baathists back into government and into the leadership of the military. Basically what they should do is undo everything Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld and Bremer did to that country. Dig up Sadam and let him lead.

We have on the front page the somber story of children caught in the crossfire of battle....

Where as in Syria.....

More than 10,000 children have been killed in Syria.........

Some of it is on purpose...

Sort of reminiscent of the stories flowing out of Kuwait after the Iraq invasion which later were proven to be completely untrue, but not soon enough to prevent H.W. Bush from mounting his Persian Gulf war. I feel sure we will hear of some more horrible atrocities so we should be careful not to believe everything said or else we could find our military, once again, deeply mired in an Iraqi Civil War.

I hope Hillary puts some new drapes in his rent-free head.

Of course, she and many others who were meeting with the groups in Syria, not including McCain who met with these same ISIS people, knew who the bad guys were and were confident in being able to arm the moderate rebel forces against Assad, AQ, and these ISIS jihdists.

And had that happened, we would not be talking about ISIS or Assad today, other than in the past tense.

Yeah, I've seen this deflection used quite a bit. "If you criticize Israel but don't talk about the situations in Sudan or Syria or East Jabip then obviously you don't care about carnage and something else (anti-semitism) is really behind your criticism."

First of all, that is nonsense on its face and doesn't need to be addressed at all. Attacking the critics is never a valid justification of the actions in question.

Secondly, my criticism comes from the fact that the US funds Israel and Israel has huge sway over our politicians and foreign policy. If Israel were doing all this on their own dime and staying out of our business, I would care alot less about their business.

"Give me money and do what I say and shut up" is not a reasonable position.

Assuming that ISIS issued a fatwa, which is a pretty big assumption at this point, my guess is more than a few Iraqi husbands, fathers, brothers, sons and some mothers, sisters and daughters would be willing to take up arms against those trying to mutilate their loved ones.

P.S. Your straw men notwithstanding, Progressives like Lincoln and FDR capably wiped the smiles off of the faces of traitors and the NAZI war machine in the past. But you might have missed that in your Limbaugh-led Two Minutes Hate.

P.P.S. I have no idea why you keep trying to interject Israel into this matter.

Don't know where you got the idea that I hate Christians, I am an agnostic Christian myself. I don't know if there is a God for sure (an neither does anyone else) but I still identify as a Christian because that is how I was raised, still occasionally fire of a sincere prayer to a Christian God.
AS far as the tragedy that is Iraq today, the murderous ISIS, this is one of the worst cases of unforeseen consequences (though many tried to warn them) of invading a nation that our leaders had not basic understanding of. This outcome was pretty predictable, not the exact characters but the general idea.
It can't get better as Malaki remains Prime MInister of Iraq. The Sunnis hate him more than ISIS.

Because Malaki fired all the Sunni officers who actually were well trained and knew how to fight and replaced them with Shiah loyal to him but incapable of putting up a real fight.

HEY LEFTIES

Always remember, these ISIS guys are the poor oppressed 'other'.
Keep slamming those Christians, especially white male ones. That evil church lady that knocks on your door every few months and invites you to church is the REAL threat!!!

The Spanish inquisition during a 356 year history killed between 3000 and 5000 people.

Communist Spain, in a period of about 6 years, killed between 38,000 and 72,344 people.

Even if we assume the max number for those nasty Christians and the minimum number for the socially conscious anti-faith socialists, that's still a 451 to 1 ratio.

Math for anyone who needs it:

6 years vs. 356 years = 59.333 to 1.
38,000 dead vs 5000 dead = 7.6 to 1.
Final ratio = 451 to 1.
