Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Amanda Sakuma, MSNBC: Republicans are using the flood of migrant children across the U.S. border as a bludgeon in hopes of dismantling deportation protections for DREAMers -- young undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children. Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has made ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program a "top priority" and is pushing legislation to cut its funding. Another 33 Republicans pressed President Barack Obama in a letter to roll back the executive order to "send a clear signal to all individuals that our immigration laws will be enforced." Greisa Martinez, organizer for United We Dream, said, "The GOP's politicizing of Central American refugees to push its own agenda is shameful, and their attacks on DACA will not stand."

The right wingers have a golden opportunity to show the world how Americans help the desperate gain the freedoms that they are risking life and limb to obtain. They however are using these undocumented to slam Obama.

That all sounds very good Larry. You're usual well meant and sincere sympathy for people. HOWEVER,I am quite certain that your charge is not what this is all about.

There are tens of millions of conservatives who are for immigration. LEGAL immigration and that's really all I need to say because everything else goes toward what I firmly believe to be the intent, and that's to change the demographics of the country. To hit that magic 51 % of voters on government assistance.
The reason I"m sure of that is past history. When the dems LIED to reagan about that immigration policy as they LIED about tax raise and cuts with HW 41.

When it comes to your comment on the 'dreamers'....completely illegal move...the only question in my mind AT ALL concerning that is why the cowards in the gop have not blocked it in some way.

Reagan said as much himself in a televised debate with Democratic presidential nominee Walter Mondale in 1984.

"I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally," he said.

Funny dat be in triplicate spades.

History will record the events going on today and today's conservatives will, I'm afraid, be remembered as people who though they claim to value American values really, in truth, don't have a clue about American values.

Pushing for blanket amnesty for those who entered this country illegally is not an American value.

Seriously, for somebody who loathes free trade agreements with a passion, illegal immigration should infuriate you. But, for some reason it doesn't.

That was one of the darker times in Bill Clinton's Presidency. I was appalled when he sent Elien Gonzalez back to Cuba after his mother died trying to give him a better future.

How about incentivizing their nations of origin into fixing the cartel terrorism? Or, at least decriminalize drugs to take the money out from the criminal pockets and injected directly into our economy.

The War On Drugs failed. The result is a continual stream of innocent children attempting escape from lifetime incarceration and exploitation.

Up until the early 1900's, American values pretty much accepted anyone who came here. And then the white folk slowly started trying to shut the doors..

Globalization is the reason they started coming here. Sure there are other factors but, for years we were told it was economics.

#13 | Posted by Dalton at 2014-07-22 04:04 PM | Reply | Flag:

#12 It's not funny, it's sad. They have been told by Corporate America that by shipping their neighbors job over to China, it is the only way that prices on toasters can stay where they are. But don't worry your neighbor can always get a new job that pays 1/2 of what he was previously making, but he can work two jobs now to make up the difference. See productivity in action!

But when your neighbors who are now working for much less stop buying from their employer and they go out of business they will blame the immigrants. Because that is what Fox News or Rush Limbaugh told them to do.

#14 | Posted by 726 at 2014-07-22 04:04 PM | Reply | Flag:

Globalization is the reason they started coming here.

Globalization was supposed to lift them up. But when the greedy CEO's saw that they could pay China or India 1/2 of what Mexicans were making, well to hell with them.

Globalization is a game where 99% of the people lose.

Yep Chinese came over by the boatloads full in the mid 1800's to help with the westward expansion. Tis where our first drug laws came into being.

Apples and oranges. In the early 1900's this country didn't have a welfare state. Also, immigrants were expected to assimilate - keep cultural traditions but also accept the fact that they are now Americans. This included learning the English language.

Kill the welfare state and drop all of this multi-culturalist PC nonsense and I'd happily embrace open borders.

I disagree totally and I base it on the fact that CSPAN Wash Journal is a random call in show about bipartisan issues such as immigration and free trade, and the majority of Americans that call in do understand that neither Party works to support prosperity for Americans. Immigration creates cheap labor not prosperity.

Both Parties work to support prosperity for the lobbyists, elites, NYC bankers, CEOS and most importantly.....politicians and the need for only two Parties (and of course our staunch ally in the ME that has never ever done one thing for America except take). We Americans pay and our "best friend" creates animosity and pushback towards us.

The idiots in the Democratic party couldn't just sit back and let the Republican party implode in on itself, could they? This is disingenuous crap. The left have been playing politics with the children of illegal immigrants in a manner that's just as irresponsible as Putin's support of the rebels in Ukraine.

I could agree 100% if the banker and corporate elite killed their crony welfare state too and it is massive. PC is intended to make us malleable fools (or tools?) for the wealthy and political elites who used it in their Communist homeland.

Welfare in America has become a vehicle that elites, politicians and operatives use but mostly towards those with the least. Instead they use it to help make those with the most get richer too, but most importantly get R/D pols re-elected.

Robson,

I actually am not in favor of shredding the safety net. My point is that it must be done if open borders is the goal. The 2 cannot coexist.

I agree completely regarding corporate welfare. It is a MASSIVE problem that, among other things, prevents the market from functioning properly.

They don't need angry white people to put them in the White House, just like the Dems don't need angry black people to put them in. They just need the other party to be more obviously dumber than they are. The Republicans and Democrats take turns playing Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum (or Tweedle-Dumb and Tweedle-Dumber).

I just wonder what could have been accomplished in South and Central America will all the money we wasted in Iraq. I wonder if we couldn't have helped those nations build infrastructure and their economies so that we could see a growing middle class there and eliminate the whole immigration problem. If we are going to outsource jobs, let's outsource them to our own hemisphere, build the economy of the Western Hemisphere instead of China.

The dem answer to EVERYTHING - MORE MONEY!!!!

Since 1946, the United States has provided over $148 billion (constant 2010 dollars) in assistance to the region.

The Administration has requested some $1.7 billion for the region to be provided through the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USA
ID).

More money to corrupt governments does not help - but keep beating your head against the wall DANNI - you may find your answer yet.

Meanwhile, as we give everything to illegal immigrants, not wanted nor needed. Dems cite compassion and invoke hypocritical religious sentiment into the arguement. Inner city youth, poor rural, homeless, veternans, and all other groups of Americans get the shaft (especially the middle class).

But hey, now nancy pelosi and george bush can have more cheap labor to tend to there lawns and wash their cars.

The dumbest thing this country could do would be to deport the real dreamers who are educated, law abiding, hard working people who will pay taxes and help finance SS and Medicare for their entire working careers.
Some folks are so stuck in xenophobia and racism that they ignore the value that the dreamers offer America.

If we passed Comprehensive Immigration Reform they would be able to collect the same as anyone else. Why don't you want to offset the demographic problem the country faces due to low birth rate since the Boomer generation?

Why don't you and the president just say it? You want amnesty not reform. How are they offsetting anything if they get to collect from SS? Are you saying the fund is in a deficit? You could raise the eligibility age by two years for current five year old kids and solve a lot of the funding issues. Rather than take on a bunch of new citizens.

as usual, you misrepresent the entire episode. it was the flooding of the house with men armed and some arms even drawn I believe, ripping the 'poor poor child'...sound familiar.....from a closet

and I"M GLAD you brought that up.,...do you have any idea about those days....massive numbers of people coming from Haiti....and do you have any idea why that stopped being an epidemic....any idea at all?

I'll give you some time to look it up yourself... lol

Only in America would we label illegal immigrants as dreamers. What an idiotic country, as if they, the -------- are the only ones that dream.

20 million illegal immigrants have come into this country over the past 20 years. We are not better off, we are worse off. Stagnant wages in low-skill jobs and increased social welfare costs.

These -------- are selfish people concerned only about there well-being and not the country to which they wish to belong.
