More than 100 AIDS activists, researchers and health workers bound for a major conference in Melbourne were on the Malaysia Airlines flight downed in the Ukraine. Delegates to the 20th International AIDS Conference, due to begin on Sunday, will be informed today that 108 of their colleagues and family members died on MH17. "It's going to be a very somber week," said activist and journalist Sean Strub of Poz magazine. "The struggle with the epidemic is bigger than any one individual but the collective loss of so many important people is one that is emotionally devastating."

Is that what Obama told you? I think he said "nearly 100"......

Only 7 are confirmed going to the conference .....

There are quite a few stories reporting this number Andrea. I can only give you what the consensus is. The WaPo article is the first to deny the numbers. As with all things, the story is developing. You can blame Obama for that if you want.

It's never to soon to blame Obama, is it?

It's never too[sic] soon to blame Obama, is it?

Not when you've got full-blown Obama Derangement Syndrome.

You're still not proving yourself worthy of respect or a "reasoned" response.

The Malaysian flight took it upon itself to reroute into a war zone to avoid bad weather. Nothing happened when five other passenger airplanes were shot down. Obama, the State Department and the CIA have a hidden agenda in this case and would like war. The Putin guilt by association and media coverage will be relentless in order to further that agenda. Human rights are a value that applies to everybody except the Unites States and Israel, who are exempt from their application. Theater of the absurd.

Damn, that explains it.

They flew into a war zone as Nutcase said. Bad sh...stuff happens all the time in a war zone. There are no rules to a war zone. Everything that moves is sadly and tragically fair game. The blame I place is on the airline that knowingly and purposely flew into an area that was known to be dangerous just to save money.

Big lawsuit coming IMHO.

In retrospect that sounds true, Kanrei. But it was an area of unrest, not outright war, before this.
BTW, it is very, very nice to see you back posting. I as worried about you.

Couldn't agree more----anybody remember the Iran Air Airbus plane shot down by the U.S. over the Persian Gulf in 1988 with 290 passengers and crew. Where was the outrage then? Where were the sanctions on the U.S. then. Washington is trying its' best to goad Putin into an aggressive action and to get the EU to increase sanctions it wants no part of. Of course, if any of the delinquents on this site that are selective partisan warmongers were honest, they would come out of the closet and admit they support the Wolfowitz Doctrine:

"Our first objective is to prevent the re-emergence of a new rival, either on the territory of the former Soviet Union or elsewhere, that poses a threat on the order of that posed formerly by the Soviet Union. This is a dominant consideration underlying the new regional defense strategy and requires that we endeavor to prevent any hostile power from dominating a region whose resources would, under consolidated control, be sufficient to generate global power."
