Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, July 18, 2014

A Connecticut state trooper, caught on his own dashboard camera stealing a dying motorist's cash and gold crucifix, has been sentenced to prison. Aaron "A.J." Huntsman, 45, pleaded guilty under the Alford doctrine to third-degree larceny and tampering with evidence and could have faced up to 10 years in prison, but Superior Court Judge Robert Devlin sentenced him to 16 months in prison and five years probation. John Scalesse was killed Sept. 22, 2012 after his motorcycle crashed into a construction company truck in Fairfield. Huntsman took the man's gold crucifix on a chain from a pool of blood and $3,700 cash from his pockets.

The irony is had the cross meant something more to him than free money, he'd never have taken it.

A year and a half? If that. This scum bag deserves 20 years. I hope his friends and neighbors make his life intollerable.

Someone stole my ethics textbook in college and to this day I wonder why.
Stealing a crucifix reminded me of that.

For those wondering what kind of work allowed the deceased to ride around with a $5K crucifix and $4K in cash, the victim was a mason! Let the ignoramus religious nutjob-conspiracy theorist freakout commence!

"caught on his own dashboard camera"
The cameras, have been a godsend for cops wrongly accused of crimes, and in catching the truly stupid cops, like this idiot.

A plea made under the Alford Doctrine means Huntsman didn't admit his guilt but conceded there was a good chance he could have been found guilty of the crime if he went to trial. The judge then found him guilty.

BS! This case should have gone to trial!!! It's not just LEO's that's the problem, it the whole GD justice system!!!

Because LEOs hold positions of power and trust, they must be held to a higher standard.

If you committed the same crime tomorrow, got caught, and it was your first offense you'd get 3 months probation and nothing else. He got ACTUAL REAL JAIL TIME and more probation.

What the hell is wrong with ALL OF YOU, LEFT AND RIGHT that you think Cops are less human than you?

Most important....this lying thief should never ever be a cop again or receive a pension or benefits. He should have a black mark on his record that never is erased. He is a disgrace to the force.

Those who feed themselves a steady diet of stories about train wrecks can eventually convince themselves that all trains are wrecks waiting to happen.

It is because cops hold a position of power and influence that they should be held to a higher standard than the rest of us mere mortals. Similarly, when the rest of us mortals do something against a LEO or any public official while they are performing their jobs, we should be dealt with more harshly than if the same offense was performed against a non LEO or public official.

Stealing a crucifix from a corpse? AJ is lucky he wasn't struck by lightening on the spot...

He does have a black mark, it's called a felony conviction.

Won't say it couldn't happen, but the odds of him ever being a police officer are virtually nil, especially since the felony was committed while he was on duty.

Also, since he pled guilty his benefits and pension went bye bye as well.

So your god is indifferent to the head-on collision, it's the petty larceny that should bring his wrath?

Blusky, leave it to an idiot to take a news story and somehow make it a snipe against Christians.
Try reading a book someday...maybe even just being quiet.

i thought it's double-irony until i remembered the old adage that cops & criminals share many personality traits, and occasionally the dark side wins in the "good side."

The crucifix is a dark symbol, also; i noticed the Catholic hospital where my Dad was treated a few weeks ago had replaced the crucifixes in every room with the Risen Christ cross.

No need for sniping, Catdog seems to have hit the target. And there is always room in your quiver for expected the 'christian values' vitriol. Thanks for all the heavy lifting!
