Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Tyler Hicks, New York Times, in Gaza City: I had returned to my small seaside hotel around 4 p.m. to file photos to New York when I heard a loud explosion. My driver and I rushed to the window to see what had happened. A small shack atop a sea wall at the fishing port had been struck by an Israeli bomb or missile and was burning. A young boy emerged from the smoke, running toward the adjacent beach. I grabbed my cameras and was putting on body armor and a helmet when, about 30 seconds after the first blast, there was another. The boy I had seen running was now dead, lying motionless in the sand, along with three other boys who had been playing there.

about 30 seconds after the first blast, there was another

"Roof knocking" from our compassionate friends in Israel.

www.theguardian.com

They're destroying homes like crazy doing this.

They claim the "knock" is to let the people know their home is about to be leveled.

Obviously, it's just the sheen of civility to mask the horror of endless war devoid of humanity. A three minute eviction notice is just a cruel joke.

And if Israel were not able to protect itself, you would see many more of these, only to the Jews.

Why wont the muslims just stop rocketing the jews? All of this would stop..

Boaz: Israel protected itself from boys playing on the beach really well. Now it has to protect itself from every Palestinian who was radicalized by that bomb.

Tell Israel to stop encroaching into Palestinian lands.

Maybe the cowardly Hamas should stop hiding amongst women and children and fight the Israelis openly. Theyre protected by God, they cant lose. What's their hesitation?

Side-note, why do these poor open fields in Israel deserve the "wrath of Allah"?

Sorry to uhmm, interject, but this isnt about retribution, this is about conquering the "Holy Land". These groups arent motivated by the deaths of these children, they accept it as a cost of jihad.

Uhmm, no, this is about Israel controlling Judea and Samaria.

Guerrilla warfare against a much more powerful opponent is always fought the way Hamas is fighting it. Your comment is like expecting war to go back to being two sides lined up and marching towards each other firing muskets.

Obviously, Hamas is firing rockets and Israel like any state has justification to defend itself. But Israel also has almost all of the power in this situation, and it is creating more problems than it solves.

Claiming Israel wants peace is false until it stops approving new settlements.

The jewish settlements wouldn't stop. They'd keep seizing more and more land because they think the sky fairy wants them to have it.

I was once sympathetic to the Israelis. No longer. A few books piqued my interest, one of which was Apartheid by Jimmy Carter and it resulted in more curiousity and side line research. I'd recommend it as easy reading.

There should be no acceptable governmental state that is dedicated to keeping ethnicity and supporting racism which is absolutely what a "Jewish State" does. It is no more tolerable than would be an Anglo state or a Muslim or Catholic state. The idea that they have a Jewish State creates a mindset in the Israelis that they are special and others are dispensable as were these 4 kids. They don't have a right to think that way and they have no right to use artillery on civilians. One state politically governed is the only fair answer.

The only reason the Israelis won't negotiate in good faith is they hold all the marbles in weaponry, and they have the USA pit bull on a muzzle and lead that they oddly control along with free money. What they do not have is world public opinion.

If Texas land was ever stolen by some back room UN agreement controlled by imperialists and bankers that gave it to Mexico, what do you think those that once owned would do? Would they use every means at their disposal to get even?

The root cause of this perpetual war between David and Goliath is the agreement that rich Zionist bankers worked out over the years with corrupt politicians in back room deals. World opinion is inevitably going to catch up to the facts even though they try to make the discussion politically incorrect.

"I think you can probably see there are lots of Israelis gathered around who are cheering when they see these kinds of Israeli strikes." -- CNN reporter Diana Magnay:

www.buzzfeed.com

Minutes later she allegedly tweeted, and then deleted, "Israelis on hill in Sderot cheer as bomb lands on #gaza; threaten to 'destroy our car if I say a word wrong.'" Scum."

IN closer context, a Sunni Muslim state.

Boaz, you might also pose the question why wont the Israelis stop continuously thieving ever increasing amounts of Palestinian lands and demolishing their homes, and then building illegal settlements for thousands Israelis.

The answer is simple really; its because they want the lot for themselves and they intend to take it bit by bit by any means possible. Peace with the Palestinians just does not fit into that Agenda.

You might also ask why the Congress gave Netanyahoo eight standing ovations when he last visited.

#16 Yeah, but every time the US media or politicians talk about Israel they put is on a pedestal as a democratic state and the Pals are always the "militants".

Our problem in America is that free speech as been muzzled by PC, and politicians are owned by big money, and the MSM is now a Pravda like propaganda arm, yet most are not astute enough to grasp the common denominator in all of the above.

Which is why the myth of the "liberal media" is such crap.

The major media outlets are corporate controlled and profit driven - the opposite of liberal ideology.

Yeah! We didn't steal nuttin!

We convinced them to GIVE it to us. By taking Mexico City as hostage. So Mexico GAVE it to us. And I think that was a pretty fair deal.

Idiot flag.

Mexico being a third world country you would at least think we could learn something from them.

Only the earliest Texans paid much attention to these requirements and the vast distance from the Mexican central government left the settlers free to follow their own inclinations. This area's great attraction was the fertile soil, ideal for cotton production. By the early 1830s, transplanted Americans, many of them slave owners, outnumbered the Tejanos; the Mexican government soon understood that it had committed a great error by encouraging the migration of U.S. citizens with a hankering for independence.

Nope, we (Texan colonists, not the US) won the land from Mexico in a war for independence and thus became an independent republic for about ten years. Cf., e.g. the American war for independence where the colonists won the land from Britain.

Any more ignorance you wish to demonstrate?

"through lens, 4 boys dead"

I looked through another lens the day before yesterday. It was a video from Gaza. This bald guy had brought out a group of school kids. It looked like a field trip, not much different from when a petting zoo visited my daughter's daycare. Some of those little girls aren't (weren't?) much older than mine. They were about 20 yards behind the main object of attention.. a 100mm+ crew-served mortar. A guy in Hamas colors was firing off rounds from it. The background was clearly a highly dense urban environment. The bald guy was inciting the kids to cheer on the mortar operator with allah ackbar chants.

Glad I don't live there.

Ever been to a US air show on a military base? It's basically the same thing. Trained mercenaries using cool weapons to brainwash kids.

You "won" it...like it was a raffle?....no you physically took it. i.e. you stole it.

Thank you for accepting responsibility for that particilar theft but the US Army won the Mexican American war by ultimately capturing Mexico City and then suing for peace. Which included them regifting the land (they had previuosly stole from the natives) to Texas (which later joined the US).

I suppose they don't tell you these things in your New and Improved Texas History books.

Yep, just like the American colonies "stole" from England and just like the US "stole" most of the western US from Mexico.

I don't know about new and improved Texas history books. The last class I took was in high school many years ago. When did you take a class in Texas history? Oh, you haven't lest you forgot about the Battle of San Jacinto.

Been to? I participate. Part of it is certainly propaganda and military recruiting.

There's kind of a key difference though...

Nobody launches retaliatory air strikes against US air shows. There are no mortars being fired at hostile countries from them. Children aren't being used as human shields at them.
