Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, July 17, 2014

Glenn Greenwald: The secretive British spy agency GCHQ has developed covert tools to seed the internet with false information, including the ability to manipulate the results of online polls, artificially inflate pageview counts on web sites, "amplif[y]" sanctioned messages on YouTube, and censor video content judged to be "extremist." The capabilities, detailed in documents provided by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, even include an old standby for pre-adolescent prank callers everywhere: A way to connect two unsuspecting phone users together in a call. The tools were created by GCHQ's Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group (JTRIG), and constitute some of the most startling methods of propaganda and internet deception contained within the Snowden archive. Previously disclosed documents have detailed JTRIG's use of "fake victim blog posts," "false flag operations," "honey traps" and psychological manipulation to target online activists, monitor visitors to WikiLeaks, and spy on YouTube and Facebook users.

According to the report, British agents can rig online polls, make websites and select videos appear more popular than they are, peep at private Facebook photos, spy on eBay auctions and Skype calls and, among still more dirty tricks, impersonate targets' personal email addresses.

This claim is disprovable to anyone who cares about an issue like legal abortion, fighting climate change, teaching evolution, gay marriage or countless other things. The parties have many obvious differences.

It doesn't help you focus attention on abuses of power like massive government surveillance and public opinion manipulation to make an obviously false statement.

You are lying to yourself rcade. They are meaningless distinctions without difference. i.e. politicians taking credit for things that they have nothing to do with.

The entire system in controlled, and not by the populace.

The only real question is: how long until you can no longer keep your head in the sand.

The result being the shut-down of DR, after 368 people signed in to spoof Danni, Dethspud, Rcade, oldwhiskeysour, and 46 other members of DR...

If you are a woman who wants the right to choose, someone who believes that health care should be available to the poor, or a human being who cares about the habitability of the planet, then this is an incorrect statement. (Incorrect to the point of being stupid, or at least ridiculous.)

Tell that to the 500,000 dead iraqis.

Or hundreds of coal power plants being forced to limit their emissions.

Or americans who won't be denied insurance for pre existing conditions.

Yeah no difference at all.

CHILD.

I love this NEWSWORTHY thread.

Some of you people have the patience of saints to keep explaining this to him.

Dead wrong. Neither party cares one way or the other. The owners create the controversy to keep the rubes arguing about irrelevant nonsense.

Wake up.

So '70's.

We ID'd "The Man" in the '60's, dude. We get it.

We've know about the Ajax Project for decades. We know about systemic problems in government at home. We've known about the military-industrial complex since Ike. We know about crony corporate/government collusion and about money in politics. We already know what the problems are.

When you want to do more than whine about it, give us call.

And, btw, falling for the 1 percenter meme that, "the parties are the same" is only playing into their effort to create apathy and stifle real opposition in the form of votes.

Someone else tell him that, he doesn't listen to me.

So you're saying al gore wouldve invaded iraq, mitt romney wouldve passed coal restrictions and john mccain wouldve passed health care reform?

If you think the parties are the same then that's what you're saying. And if that's what you're saying then you're an idiot.

WAKE UP.
