Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Paul Krugman: How many Americans know how health reform is going? For that matter, how many people in the news media are following the positive developments? ... [A]n immense policy success is improving the lives of millions of Americans, but it's largely slipping under the radar. How is that possible? Think relentless negativity without accountability. The Affordable Care Act has faced nonstop attacks from partisans and right-wing media, with mainstream news also tending to harp on the act's troubles. Many of the attacks have involved predictions of disaster, none of which have come true. But absence of disaster doesn't make a compelling headline, and the people who falsely predicted doom just keep coming back with dire new warnings.

Not really.

Parading bogus numbers around on a law that is far from fully implemented is FAR from 'success'.

Warning: If you sign-up for ObamaCare, you could be forced, against your will, to donate a kidney to a Hispanic Gay man in San Francisco. And if you do not fully recover from the operation, the HUSSEIN Obama "death panels" will decide your fate.

Sound advice from Sammy ...your welcome

Debunked.

Keep lying...er...trying. You need to come up a with a better prediction of disaster to up the ante.

Come on Jeff... double down on those "Aces and Eights".

Oh DonnerBoy, of course people are going to "enroll", its the law, to claim a success because people are obeying the law is ludicrous. The real question about whether Obamacare is a success or not is whether the cost curve is bent downwards.

I haven't seen any data on that at all. In fact the subsidies will cost Billions.

So per capita did our spending go up or down? Is the medical system better or worse?

We can't answer those questions yet.... but we will soon....

Wake me up when actual numbers are published.

Counting individuals who filled their on-line shopping cart but haven't paid as 'enrollees' is stupid.

Counting individuals who purchased a plan in April, paid for a month of insurance and then cancelled for the rest of the year as 'enrolled' is stupid.

Ignoring the horrible ratio of young-invincibles to everyone else within the exchange pool is stupid.

Fact is - true numbers have yet to be released, be they good or bad for the short-term prognosis of this law.

Set aside partisanship and honestly ask yourself: Why is that? Why the lack of transparency?

LOL, the act isn't even fully implemented and they call "mission Accomplished". The low premiums are a rouse, as insurance companies will be bailed out for losses. The private market place for insurance is pretty much dead. The horrible CEO's libs like to hate will rake in millions from tax payer subsidies. Hey look how well the VA runs, an excellent example of socialized medicine.

The worst part no one sees the real damage, the damage to individual liberty as the federal government is now involved and is collecting information on your health, all in the name of compassion.

The same federal government that kills with drones, spies on its citizens via the NSA, and declares illegal wars. Yes, more power to federal government, that is the solution. Hey, it worked for Rome, Russia, N. Korea, Cambodia, and Germany

Krugman seems to be upset that more people aren't writing positive stories about Obamacare. Obamacare will take care of itself. We can discuss numbers in a meaningful way when they have been reported.

"Read and weep."

TWisted statistics and a bunch of nonsense. My daughter has health insurance today because of Obamacare, without it she wouldn't be able to buy it at any price. We are hardly alone. All over the country success stories from Obamacare are even winning over Republicans. It's here to stay, get over it.

San I, how much has your daughters insurance paid out on her family since she signed up?

Won't those numbers be kept private considering it's between a PRIVATE company and their insured??

Larry, insurance companies will release loss experience numbers on exchange members as they are available

obamacare hasn't been around long enough to call it a success. The mid summer RATE INCREASE hasn't been published yet and we don't know how many have actually used medical care provisions. But then -------- democrat shills are eager to drum up something, anything, positive before November elections.

Wait until the premiums double next year. Then we'll see people bailing like crazy except for those that couldn't get insurance any other way.

There are not enough "gravy" payers to pay for the ones that suck all the services and money. That means the government either takes the hit and coughs up money, or the insurance companies pass on ever higher premiums.

So are you saying my rates did not go up?

Are you saying the new computer system records are stored in actualy allows you to share records from doctor to doctor as promised?

Anyone who has gone from one clinic or doctor to another knows this record system doesn't work as promised. Doctors can not see the records from the other doctors they have to reenter everything again. the Obama record system is a falure.

#24 | Posted by tmaster at 2014-07-15 10:42 AM | Reply | Flag:

"the Obama record system is a falure."

There is no such thing. Obamacare funds healthcare providers so that they can buy Electronic Record Systems, which system they buy is their own choice. There are also problems with technicians not knowing how to operate such systems.

This comment demonstrates some ignorance about ObamaCare. The enrollment process was time consuming. If you're an enrollee, you went through a long process and likely had to get help in person or over the phone about how to select your plan. My wife and I had to go to Florida Blue in Jacksonville and attend an hour-long presentation, then sat down with a counselor for another 45 minutes.

Counting enrollees who got to the end of the process is hardly like counting people who filled out an online shopping cart.

My family has the best insurance we've been offered in years because of ObamaCare. The premiums are slightly more expensive, but the benefits are so much better we're saving money.

Why not just wait until they can tally the number of those fined, uh taxed, for not having it? See how many could keep it at the increased expense for a year?
I will be among those, both for consciousness and because my rate would have doubled for a much worse plan.
That seems like a bit more of a reasonable measure of how many people bowed down and bent over for this crap.

my summer rate increases are out, about 1.5% increase...less than the last 5 years. And that's in Texas, the state that never found a rate increase it didn't like.

Any business that missed it projections for the year by 50% would be considered a failure. It takes a warped and corrupted mind to argue otherwise.

Obamacare is a small improvement in the world's most outrageously expensive health care system.
