Argentina plays its first World Cup semifinal since 1990, facing today a Netherlands team looking to reach its second consecutive final. The countries have met four times in the tournament and four other times. Argentina won only one of the matches, but it was the 1978 World Cup final.

Should be a hell of a game. But then again, I said the same thing about yesterday's game before it began.

Will it be 0-0 at the half, like most world cup games?

Get ready for a shootout.

Val Gaal's mind games backfire this time. Now he has to go back to his new club having taken off their best player right before a shootout.
Football is cruel sometimes.
Sneijder had a great tourny, he doesn't deserve that.

Argentina winning the whole thing in Rio, putting one more dagger in the rotting corpse that is Brazilian football....
Sheesh
Better watchout for the pitchforks when this thing is over.

That game was a bummer. I guess the defenses played well in shutting down Lionel Messi on one side and Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder on the other, but I wanted to see some scoring so the trailing side would have to take chances.

What is the fascination with this game? Winning by shoot-out?!? That's like settling a basketball championship with a game of HORSE between two randomly-selected players, one from each competing team...

Why do you care? The World Cup is a party attended by 3 billion every four years, and you just missed out on it. Soccer's a great sport to watch, but like other sports it isn't without its flaws. Everybody hates deciding games by shootout after regular time and an extra 30 minutes, but it's the best of bad alternatives. Even the greatest players in the world are dragging after 120 minutes of running.

Germany v. Argentina for the finals just like 1990.

I was in Germany in 1990 during the finals, wish I could be there again. Lots of great parties.
