Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Israeli air strikes shook Gaza every few minutes on Wednesday, and militants kept up rocket fire at Israel's heartland in intensifying warfare that Palestinian officials said has killed at least 53 people in the Hamas-dominated enclave. Missiles from Israel's Iron Dome defense system shot into the sky to intercept rockets launched, for the second straight day, at Tel Aviv, the country's commercial capital. Some were also aimed at Israel's Dimona nuclear plant, 50 miles from Gaza, but were either shot down or landed in open country.

It never ceases to amaze me that people held in an open air prison are referred to as terrorist?

The Gaza strip has been terrorized for decades.

You reap what you sow.

It never ceases to amaze me the acceptance of terror as a way of resolving differences, and the simple views that exist of a very complex situation.

The terroristic actions of a few Palestinians is about to bring down some serious hardships on their own people. They are not interested in a peaceful co-exsistence.

From where I'm sitting, Israel started this current sh--storm when they used the killing of the three kids as an excuse to attack Hamas, which didn't have anything to do with the killings, according to a reporter from Jerusalem on NPR last week. Predictably, Hamas couldn't keep their rockets in their tubes and it's escalating by the moment. But, ultimately, Bibi pulled the trigger before he knew who he was firing back against.

To all of you Zionist supporters - explain how human aid cannot penetrate the Israeli blockades, but rockets are shipped in by the hundreds?

There were over 60 strikes made inside of Gaza on Monday alone. An army is being assembled for a ground assault - they intend on wiping these people out entirely. You creatures are PATHETIC.

I said as much the day the three Israelis were buried and before the vengeance killing occurred.

Sadly, much like the Sunni/Shia issue, there are people on both sides that are eager for war and will use any excuse to start it. Both Hamas and Israel share the blame for this tragedy and neither will be forgiven by the dead IMHO.

#8: So Redlight, how many Hamas rockets need to be fired into Israel before its ok for them to respond? 200? 300? 500? Which by the way are now capable of reaching further into Israel to major population centers.

Apologist do just that. Why do you approve of the occupiers bombing their prisoners?

These prisoners are surrounded by walls. What are the innocents suppose to do?

The inhabitants of Gaza have sown the seeds of their own destruction. They will not change their destructive ways and most likely cease as a people in the not so distant future.

Human aid comes from stupid people loudly broadcasting their intentions from easily intercepted flotillas that get turned back.

Rockets come from deeply buried, hard to find smuggling tunnels.

It's not magic.

Israel could easily resolve this problem without the use of rockets and get Hamas to acknowledge a true due process by bulldozing the homes of the killers of the palestinian teenager, as well as the homes of all the killers relatives. They already have both groups of killers in custody, and have already razed 50+ palestinian homes, why not show the world what blind justice really is.

The only person that would have an effect on is you.

Israel could give 2 million dollars to every Palestinian and they would still call for the destruction of Israel.

They could stop sending in archeologists that will label anything found in the dirt a "jewish artifact", and then using it as the pretense to build walled fortress neighborhoods on the land of people that can't effectively fight back. It might piss off fewer people.

Nonsense. You're nowhere near Israel.

I see a lot of racism and hatred against a people who were forced off their land by terrorist and placed in open air prisons while the occupiers ethnically cleanse the region.

I've been to israel and the west bank, my neighbor is an armenian who was born in jaffra, palestine who's fathers pharmacy was blown up by the Igrun. My neighbor was also a UN photographer who photographed the first refugee camps and many political meetings.

Here is a golf clap.

are they within range of these new rockets?

Amazing stroke of genius that those rockets coincide with the unity government talks - just in time to obliterate them.

The IDF text messages before they strike and sends "roof knocker" shells anywhere from a minute to an hour before a precision strike. Where do you think the videos of buildings getting blown up come from? People are alerted by text message. It's how they know exactly where to point the camera to film the ensuing explosion.

It's the exact opposite of what you do when your goal is to wipe out everybody in an area.

"Natanyahu has made it clear that if rocket (not guided missile) fire out of Gaza does not end, there will be a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip. IMO this will be a large search and destroy operation employing a lot of infantry supported armor that will be heavily provided with artillery and air support. IMO a decision to conduct such an operation in an area that contains 1.6 million people, most of them civilians, is a decision to inflict mass casualties on that population. IMO that decision is motivated by a desire to destroy the unity government now in effect in the Palestinian Authority. Is this not a war crime?"
Besides, what is Israel's strategic objective here ? How, if a Gaza ground invasion occurs, will they expect any Palestinian, however 'moderate', to negotiate with them in the future ? That's the point. They don't.
"There has now been rocket fire out of Lebanon. This is Hizbullah fire. HB possesses an impressive inventory of rockets and guided missiles as well as many hardened positions from which to fire. They also have a large inventory of antiaircraft weapons. There is little love lost between Hamas (Sunni) and HB (Shia) but the provocation being offered by Israeli bombardment and the coming invasion may be too much for HB to accept. A combination of Hamas and HB rocketry and guided missiles would have range fans that would cover most of Israel........Ben Gurion airport is the best counter value target in Israel. The Dimona nuclear complex is too deeply buried to be accessible to the primitive rocketry available to either Hamas or HB. Look to see the "Aghabs" shoot at the airport in an effort to hurt Israel's economy. "
IMO the underlying "strategic" goal for Israel in this.........manufactured frenzy is , to divide the Gazan people from their Hamas government through fear of mass collective punishment.

Most of the Israeli people and their government still believe that if they beat the "Aghabs" long enough and hard enough, the "Aghabs" will eventually understand that they have no choice but to submit and accept their permanent serfdom under Israeli rule.

This understanding of the possibilities is typical of the Revisionist Zionist thinking of the Likud and Bibi Natanyahu. Israel has been applying this kind of political logic for many decades. This approach has never worked to further the goal of improving their security situation. What did work was the Madrid/Oslo process. but the implied creation of an actual Palestinian state has never been an acceptable notion for most Israelis. They say to pollsters that they want peace? Many conquerors and occupiers have wanted peace, but what kind of peace?"
And where they make a desert, they call it peace........
