Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, July 06, 2014

Some conservative gearheads are modifying their trucks to spew black smoke to protest liberal environmentalists and President Barack Obama. Dave Weigel reports, "For as little as $500, anyone with a diesel truck and a dream can install a smoke stack and the equipment that lets a driver 'trick the engine' into needing more fuel. The result is a burst of black smoke that doubles as a political or cultural statement -- a protest against the EPA, a ritual shaming of hybrid 'rice burners,' and a stellar source of truck memes. The 'Prius repellent' decal is easy to find on truck fan sites, as are memes of single or double stack trucks humiliating the drivers of smaller cars."

"I run into a lot of people that really donít like Obama at all," said one seller of smoke stack kits from Wisconsin. "If he's into the environment, if he's into this or that, we're not. I hear a lot of that. To get a single stack on my truck -- that's my way of giving them the finger. You want clean air and a tiny carbon footprint? Well, screw you."

This sort of hits a nerve with me. Hate Obama fine - be racist redneck (most haters I know are just that). But I believe the word for this is stupidity. You do this because you are opposed? I mean it defines stupidity and pure I have a few words rcade won't allow here to go with it. Frankly if you are so stupid and such a jerk - you don't belong on the road. These are the same type of people that would be whining and complaining if they allowed loggers to clear cut their hunting forests or polluted the rivers they fish. No on second thought - they would be the ones eating PCB laced fish saying nothing wrong with it..

I am old enough to remember how bad the air used to be near heavy traffic areas - it is still bad but much better than it was 30 years ago. The rivers that nobody dared fish... Rivers that didn't freeze etc. I like to have clean air - and I am a performance enthusiast. And I have a truck but I also have a "ricer" for daily driving. This is just a way to ensure vehicle inspections in your state. I'd video you and turn it in.

"shouldn't you be modifying your big rig to spew out black smoke?

Shouldn't the Democrats apologize to blacks?

The PBS website on "The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow" said: "The Democratic Party identified itself as the ‘white man's party' and demonized the Republican Party as being ‘[black] dominated,' even though whites were in control." Some Democrats formed the terrorist organization the Ku Klux Klan in the 1870's.

"Tainting the tea party movement with the charge of racism is proving to be an effective strategy for Democrats. There is no evidence that tea party adherents are any more racist than other Republicans, and indeed many other Americans. But getting them to spend their time purging their ranks and having candidates distance themselves should help Democrats win in November. Having one's opponent rebut charges of racism is far better than discussing joblessness." -- Mary Frances Berry, former Chairwoman, US Commission on Civil Rights.

A party that was founded upon their hatred of a black man as president speaks for itself.

Post as many unsourced quotes as your heart desires.

All one needs is a memory to know how racist the Tea Party actually is.

The worst thing about Obama is how much he resembles the worst president we ever had - Dubya. But even as much as he resembles him in having little respect for privacy and civil liberties, at least Obama hasn't jumped us into any major pointless long term conflicts in the world. Making him still the better president by far. Once the next president is firmly ensconced, people will begin to forget just as they have with Bush, and his popularity will go back up.

You know how to recognize an area with deer overpopulation? Look at the hunting regulations:

Maryland Region B:
Season: Sept 5th to January 31st (yes, 5 months long)

Season Bag Limit
Archery Unlimited Antlerless/1 Antlered (you can use crossbows)
Muzzleloader 10 Antlerless/1 Antlered
Rifle 10 Antlerless/1 Antlered

Plus one bonus antlered deer, so up to 4 Antlered deer total between the 3 seasons.

www.eregulations.com

THAT is overpopulation.

One of the biggest propaganda efforts in history has been created to trash Carter and pretend Reagan was a great president. Sheep like you are the victims of that propaganda effort.

It would have been nice if the article contained a bit more information. First the modification is a tuner. It's a little device that allows different programs for the computer. It will also allow you to use an economic setting grabbing another mpg or 2 or raise power. Typically those guys rolling coal do not drive that way and only select it when they want to get sooty. But you can change programs on the fly so it is not the cruising program used. It's kinda like shutting off traction control to do a burnout or doughnuts at midnight in a parking lot.

That said, if was actually a protest there is plenty of cause. Our backwards diesel laws are doing far more harm then good. They keep legitimate economic cars out of the country and replace them with the pretend ones like the prius. Without that crap we would be swimming in real 80 plus mpg cars as well as 30 mpg half ton pickups. So making fun of the idiotic and anti science diesel laws makes sense. So make fun of the primus owners, they are responsible for creating the environment that stalled the drive for real economy.

#92 Gator has a point, Nerf. Modern low-sulphur diesel is clean, the cars get much better mileage, have more torque and last longer. Unfortunately, the price of diesel is kept just high enough to make it difficult to achieve the cost benefits. That price increase over gasoline is due in large part to a tax on diesel aimed at tractor-trailers, not cars.

LOL... being older makes you wiser? Someone has to be born during WWII to have an opinion?

Yea. For a survey about who the best president since WW2 to be accurate it would need to poll people with first hand knowledge.

Seems that fact is eluding you. At least MysteryToy stopped bringing it up when he realize he'd been called out on his bull. You, seem to revel in your ignorance.

We have these things called computers and then there are things called Books that contain all of history. We can actually look back and read about events that happened before. We don't have to live through them. It seems liberals always have an opinion on Lincoln, Nixon, Vietnam, etc. even if those were before they were born. Imagine that.

Awesome! Second hand knowledge written by people with an agenda. You always base you life on other people's opinions.

Also, have you read every opinion available about ever president since WW2? Have you read anything?

I know your choice for the best President... Carter... laughing my a** off here.

Says the guy that's had two days and several posts in which to post one thing wrong about Carter. Quick! To the googles!! I'm sure you can copy and paste someone else's opinion as your own. Since it's obvious you don't have an opinion of your own.

You finally took the time to actually look up the poll.. hahaha I guess not too old to use Google once in a while.

Carter was an idiot. Obama at least saved him from being the worst President ever. 21% interest on home loans, gas lines and shortages, ... Carter defined the word incompetent, that was until Obama came and stole the title.

Reagan negotiated with terrorists and traded arms for hostages. The stagflation Carter is known for was already there when he took office which is why Ford came out with the WIN button (Whip Inflation Now. Carter appointed Paul Volker to be Chairman of the Fed, he raised interest rates to very high levels and it did begin to reduce inflation. This makes me sad. Lets see... the only president that was a Naval submarine officer, with a bachelors of science and post-grad work in nuclear engineering and nuclear physics... what technology did his admin push through the military?

Well, there's stealth.... The advancements that rendered the entire multi-billion ruble Russian investment in missile systems worthless, massively contributing to the fall of the soviet union.

All of the "brilliant" classed weapon systems our military uses today came from the Carter era DARPA, launching the Assault Breaker Program.

What did a hollywood actor bring to the table?

Well.. these advances led to the cancellation of some major public projects, particularly the B-1 bomber, as it became obsolete while still on it's multi-million dollar drawing board. The Reagan campaign, despite being especially briefed on why it happened and our development of "silver bullets", they used this is a campaign wedge issue to attack Carter, going as far as a Reagan speech in the Rockwell plant promising workers to re-start development and production. Reagan bought votes with public money that wasn't even his yet, building obsolete equipment for obsolete missions.

There's that, but hey, you know, jobs.

a protest against the EPA, a ritual shaming of hybrid 'rice burners,' and a stellar source of truck memes.

Conservatives are protesting against the EPA by spewing smoke into the atmosphere?

Do they really not know the EPA was created by Richard Nixon?

They really love to protest against their own ideas.. when a Democrat is in Power. Especially this Preznit.

President Nixon signed the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 on Jan. 1, 1970.

The Environmental Protection Agency was formed in December 1970 after President Nixon submitted a plan to Congress calling for the creation of the agency. Before the EPA was created, our nation had no central authority overseeing the protection of the environment.

The Clean Air Act Extension, written by Maine Sen. Edmund Muskie and signed into law by President Nixon on Dec. 31, 1970, was arguably the most significant air pollution control bill in American history.

President Nixon signed the Marine Mammal Protection Act on Oct. 21, 1972. A few days later, Nixon adding his signature to the Marine Protection, Research and Sanctuaries Act. The act, also known as the Ocean Dumping Act, regulates the dumping of anything into the ocean that would harm human health or the marine environment.

President Nixon signed the Endangered Species Act on Dec. 28, 1973. It was created to protect species in danger of extinction as a result of human activity. President Nixon asked Congress to strengthen existing conservation laws, and they responded by writing a law that grants government agencies broad powers to save and protect species slipping down the slope to extinction. The act created the endangered species list and has been called "the Magna Carta of the environmental movement" by historian Kevin Starr.

The Safe Drinking Water Act -- which was proposed by Nixon and passed by Congress in 1974 but actually signed by President Gerald Ford -- was a turning pointing in the effort to protect the nation's lakes, streams, rivers, wetlands and other bodies of water.

To some extend you are right the word has been corrupted. But real environmentalism, while it has taken a back seat to the BS agenda of the eco-nazis, does and has existed on the right. It's just that that what environmentalism has come to mean is synonymous with extremism and fundamentalism. So they tend to stay away from that word.
