Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Radio shock jock Anthony Cumia of Opie & Anthony has been fired by Sirius XM after going on a racist Twitter rant after a black woman allegedly assaulted him when he was taking photos in Times Square. She became angry because she was in one of his photos, he said. "Savage violent animal f---- prey on white people. Easy targets. This c--- has no clue how lucky she was. She belted me 10 times," Cumia wrote on Twitter. "I had a gun. ... It's a jungle out in our cities after midnight. Violent savages own the streets. They all came 2 defend this pig. I had to yell like at dogs."

Here's more of his tirade:

This quote from the link, by someone calling himself a fan of the show, is a hilarious takedown of Cumia:

"For a bright guy, he's an almost unimaginably laughable stereotype: a white multi-millionaire man-child who dates college-age women and who stalks around his mansion on Long Island fetishistically carrying a gun on his hip just in case one of the welfare queens he blames for taking all his hard-earned money -- that would be the money he makes working 4-hours-a-day -- breaks in and tries to kill him. He's like Howard Hughes, right down to the paranoid racism, if Hughes had never actually created anything worthy of a legacy."

I seriously wonder why Anthony Cumia didn't immediately file a police report? What might prevent him from doing so? Does he have a history of false allegations and faked reports?

He has a history of a publicity seeking jerk. He'll start his own internet network, if he hasn't already, and then write a book about race relations in America. He'll appeal to the lowest element and make a fortune. It's a successful business model that's been around for the last couple of decades.

I've only heard clips on utube so I don't care if he's working or not, but when you go against the sacred cow, you suffer the consequences.

I certainly do. And if the government had stepped in and arrested him for his idiotic tirade, I'd be ranting about it right.

As it stands, however, the government was not involved in this event in any way shape or form, hence, it's not a matter of constitutionally protected free speech.

Don't you righties profess belief in personal responsibility?

Actions have consequences. Freedom of speech doesn't mean idiots keep their jobs.

I'll bet you weren't playing that card when Martin Bashir was fired by MSNBC for his vile comments about Sarah Palin.

I don't like this guy but Sirius is being extremely hypocritical here. From what I heard when he was on free radio years ago, he says much worse on the air every day. And Sirius is fine with it so long as the only ones hearing it are paid subscribers who aren't going to complain. But with a public rant, Cumia has given the general public a sample of what Sirius is selling. So now Sirius wants to pretend that they are against this sort of thing when its actually what they sell as entertainment.

Also, what Cumia said isn't necessarily racist coming from someone is talking bout a woman who attacked him. He's careful not to use any racial slurs. But if you take it in the context of everything else he says, you know why he chose words like "beast".

Although I will say that I agree with him about not going to the cops. They wouldn't have done anything other than waste his time.

To be fair, it is the XM side that owns him. As a Sirius subscriber, I would have to pay extra to get access to the show.

Meh, the only real talent on that show is Jim Norton, who demeans himself by associating with such hacks, IMO. When I used to listen it was only to hear Norton and even then I found myself frequently switching the channel.

Herman and McBean were the best ever! South Florida, 97GTR in the late 80's. Bob and Tom are a close second. The rest are just white noise.

But if you did pay extra they would gladly take your money knowing full well that you were paying to hear a lot worse than what they just fired him over.

Is it? Haven't listened in years and years to them, but I don't recall this level of hate or violence in their rants. Even Neil Rogers, who is by far the most offensive radio host I ever listened to, didn't go this far and he went very VERY far...about as far as you could go and not get fined. Google Neil Rogers Condi Mona Lisa song.

He got in trouble for it sure, and could never play it again, but he survived. IMHO, this goes farther and is much worse.

I haven't listened in years either. But I distinctly remember it being a recurring bit where Anthony would walk right up to the line without blatantly crossing it and then Opie or the guests would laugh at how "racist" he is while he laughs along and half heartedly denies it. I also remember Patrice O'Neil (who was worth listening to) being a frequent guest who repeatedly referred to Anthony's racism, usually in a more argumentative sort of way.

There's a clip on Youtube where Patrice's birthday gift to Anthony was to allow him to be racist without Patrice responding. Anthony says its the best gift he could have been given.

Seems odd that a guy known to be a "shock jock" would be fired for posting a "shocking" tweet.

Isn't it his job to be shocking? Or just shocking in a PC manner?

It's SirusXM's decision to fire him. But. Don't label the guy as a "shock jock" and then get offended when he lives up to his title.

It's his job to be as shocking as he can be without becoming a corporate liability. Obviously he became one with this stuff.

From everything I've learned about him, this description fits this Shock Jock to a tee. The difference being he's found a way to get rich off the hate.

He could have expressed his anger about the woman who allegedly assaulted him without attacking her entire race. Instead, like other people who harbor racial animus, he let it out in the heat of anger and then dug himself in deeper when people who read his tweets questioned his comments, going on and on about blacks being instinctively violent and declaring it's "open season on white people in this day and age."

Maybe she didn't like having her privacy violated by some jerk with a camera? Why do conservatives hate privacy?
Heck, conservatives believe walking within sight of somebody while drinking ice tea deserved the death sentence...

Conservatives used to LOVE corporate decisions, regardless of who got hurt. Now they sound like socialists. Why do TPers hate big business?

( Then again, Aflac did spend his entire career as a civil servant).
