Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Scientists said on Wednesday many Tibetans possess a rare variant of a gene involved in carrying oxygen in the blood that they likely inherited from an enigmatic group of extinct humans who interbred with our species tens of thousands of years ago. The gene enables Tibetans to function well in low oxygen levels at elevations upwards of 15,000 feet like the vast high plateau of southwestern China. People without this variant would be apt to develop thick blood, leading to high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, low-birth-weight babies and higher infant mortality.

Tibetans are part proto-Yeti? I always thought it was suspicious how fast they were supposed to have evolved away from the rest of us humans. I plan to go on liking them. :)

Prior to the Chinese invasion they had an oppressive caste system where serfs were basically slaves. Their religion makes it easy to justify because nobody can change their "fate". Not saying they don't deserve independence but they certainly have their dark side just like any other group.

Anyway, interesting link. Thanks for posting!

I wish I saw this earlier. Residents of Shangrila also live entirely without cancer due to their high b-17 intake.

Fake! Race doesn't exist, silly. We are all created equal--it says so in the constitution.

Nope, yer wrong. It says that in the US Declaration of Independence. The DoI and Constitution are separate items.

Didn't you notice that when you were arrested on that DUI and the arresting officer recited the Miranda bloop da blam at you there was nothing in it about being created equal?

I think all that being born equal is just a metaphor meaning we are all start out nekkid and destined to die... equality ends after that.

If they have it, it isn't extinct.

Its a known fact that some modern humans will screw just about anything. I hate to suggest our honored ancestors were as indiscriminate, but they probably were. If was possible to produce fertile offspring by something early humans could have mated with, we probably still have the genes....
