Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, July 01, 2014

Has Hillary Clinton's standing with American voters been damaged by her wealth gaffes, such as her comment that she and Bill were "dead broke" when they left the White House? On the one hand, 55 percent of Americans say Clinton can relate to and understand the problems of average people, according to new NBC/Wall Street Journal survey numbers. Thirty-seven percent said she couldn't. On the other hand, over at Zogby Analytics they have some new numbers out that show the former secretary of State is not performing as well as she used to in head-to-head matchups against possible Republican rivals.

"The online polls conducted by JZ Analytics, run by the pollster John Zogby, were not used in the FiveThirtyEight forecast because we do not consider their method to be scientific, since it encourages voters to volunteer to participate in their surveys rather than sampling them at random. Their results were less accurate than most of the online polling firms, although about average as compared with the broader group of surveys."

I doubt this hurt her.

Anyone who is insulted by politicians who tell patronizing, insultingly obvious lies would already have a problem with Hillary Clinton.

This latest whopper was just Hillary being Hillary. Nothing new here.

The most ridiculous thing she ever did in public was put on that fake, racially tinged accent when she was speaking to a civil rights group. And then afterwards claiming that she is "multi-lingual". LOL

#6 That was pathetic. One of my favorite is when she claimed she was named after the guy that climbed Everest. That or when she claimed she had to "dodge" sniper fire. That was so ridiculous you wonder how these delusional politicians say things that are so easily proven to be lies. Now that I think about it the Selma speech where she tried to be blacker than Obama may be the worst.

The ACA is a boon for Bill, abortions and birth control are 100% free now. The high cost of both almost bankrupted the Clintons during his term in office.

While it is true they left the White House 10 million in debt, most Americans don't see being 10 million in debt as being broke since the average American will never have the chance to be 10 million in debt. That concept, owing 10 million, proves you were and are rich.

The only people who didn't seem to understand what she was talking about were the right wing goof balls looking to make a mountain over a mole hill. Seriously folks you could be doing something to bring about progress rather than trying to stop those who do.

whine whine whine boo hoo hoo is all you bring to the discussion.

Oh now its gee wiz she's not really a Yankee fan. Typical... if all else fails you start your psychic pitch and read her mind and tell others what she is really thinking.

"The only people who didn't seem to understand what she was talking about were the right wing goof balls looking to make a mountain over a mole hill."

If someone habitually tells lies that are blatantly obvious, it says something about their character and mental fitness.

Its unreasonable to think she doesn't lie about the big stuff if she routinely lies about the small stuff. And people who tells lies that are painfully obvious typically do it becase they can't help themselves.

-The only people who didn't seem to understand what she was talking about were the right wing goof balls looking to make a mountain over a mole hill.

Yep. Comparatively speaking, they were pretty broke when they left the WH.

But it's not the facts that speak to the media and the wingnuts, it's the perception. And inarticulate comments made without that consideration will always find a ready audience of prejudiced haters.

Of course, calling those "lies" is laughable; a comment made by someone who apparently thinks that what they say and do all day long could be recorded in the public record by friend and foe alike and their shi... er, their crap would never stink.

#15 | Posted by Corky at 2014-07-01 02:09 PM | Reply | Flag:

So broke out of the WH they could only afford multiple very high end versions of the thing that will be the most expensive asset in the vast majority of american's lives, an ivy league education for their daughter, and to help family members. Forced onto them the painful decision, "coushy hand-out job" or "extremely lucrative speaking engagements"?

How terrible. Such unimaginable suffering. I'm surprised she didn't just off herself to avoid that depressing struggle.

15: Really, Corky, you're defending the "dead broke" comment? Really? WTF, man. It was an utterly STUPID thing to say. She oughtta know better. For those of us who have actually been dead broke, it's offensive. Is it of deep moment? Of course not, but even if you're going to vote for her, you could be honest and admit that it was a stupid thing she ought not have said. And she's smart enough, btw, to know it was stupid. I'm not a hater of Hillary (though not a fan), and I can see that and criticize her for it. Engaging in such criticism does not make one a hater. I can also see that it could alienate some people, even those who don't already dislike her or who already have no respect. It was STUPID. Of course, all pols at that level are out of touch with the "common man," but she is supposed to be savvy enough to avoid such inane and insulting comments.

I think she, and most similar public figures, do so 90 percent of the time. But as I said, those who think they can do it themselves 100 percent of the time, or that it has some deep import, are just fooling themselves.

You apparently missed what I said in a pique of faux outrage. Be careful about that. Someone here will assume that you are like that all the time, lol.

Someone should ask her why they were in debt b/c the reason they were was Bill was sexually harrassing every two bit fluzy in Arkansas and they racked up a lot of lawyer fees defending him. Then of course he had to make settlement payments to those women after Hillary personally slandered them on every tv show that would have them. The reason they had to make the settlements was they both knew he had harrassed them.

The presumed 2016 presidential candidate still leads her likely Republican challengers by double digits, but her share of the vote dropped under 50 percent in the latest Zogby Analytics poll.

Clinton wins in those races, but no support over 47% and she is slipping and this is only against presumed Republican candidates, not anyone running.

People like the Clintons (or anybody as famous as the Clintons) don't see dead broke the same way we do. Their version of dead broke is when their liabilities exceed their assets. The could have hundreds of thousands in the bank but if they owe several million, that's called dead broke when you're in that income bracket.

If you remember, there were a few times when Donald Trump filed for bankruptcy.

Does anybody believe that he was "dead broke." (Technically, maybe)

Same with the Clintons. Hillary understood it. Rcade understood it. I understood it. Some will never understand it.

Hillary and Bill will always be in the back seat to the Obama's. They know their place. Hillary got the rubber hose treatment back in 2008 because illusion over substance was in vogue and she had to step aside for the "perfect man". Remember all the fainting women everywhere he went? Same routine, different city. Well, the illusion was just that; all we got was the empty suit. Look at him now. LOL. One disaster after another. Hillary's time has come and gone. Pathetic book sales. How upset can she really be with the $14 million she scammed. Giving it back would show some real character.

I'm laughing my ass off at the nonsense some of you nattering nabobs are dredging up. The fear of Hillary Clinton's enormous lead over any right wing rival has you scraping the bottom of the barrel.

The longer it takes for the GOP or the Tea Party or a third party to offer up their sacrificial lamb for 2016, the worse it looks. Here it is, only two years out from the only opportunity you'll have for many years to take back the Oval Office and all I see is a bunch of wobbly-kneed sadsacks trying to convince themselves they have a cajones to take on the Clinton avalanche of popularity in every demographic known to pollsters. (save old, angry, potbellied, cigar chomping gasbags who are mired in 19th century anti-woman mentality).

Hillary and Bill are far more popular still considered more dynamic than anything the right wing blather machine has put out since Lincoln. I know that bugs the daylight out of the clown brigade with all their tough talk about how to dominate in the political arena. None the less the Clintons win over the silk handed ------ you bozos churn out every time. That is the difference between rising to power over inheriting power.

Ya see the clown brigade had no problem paying Ken Starr 70 million in tax payers money for him to acquire nothing more than a story about oral sex and cigar ------. Just shows how much they are willing to spend for pornography. Didn't cost the Bush boneheads a nickle.

The ------------- remedy to the "moral crisis" of the White House was to install someone Nancy Reagan called the " village idiot" into the Oval Office. When your answer to everything wasn't choking on pretzels he was working on ways to spend a trillion dollars to buy him a pistol to hang in his preznitchul lieberry.

Now while he stays at home paintin pichures while his "brain" and --------- from Wyoming acompanied by his demonic spawn are still werkin hard pushing the clown brigade's lofty hope and changey agenda of spending more money to leave you empty handed. Buuuuut I guess the up side of that is your hands are free to do other things while you read the Starr report. [...]

Hillary has been known to hurl a book at the back of the head of one agent driving her in the Presidential limo accusing him of eavesdropping, forget her ps and qs by never thanking her protectors and lob profanity-laced orders when she just wanted the agents to carry her bags - a job not on agents' 'to do' list.

'Stay the f**k away from me! Just f*****g do as I say!!!' she is quoted as saying to an agent who refused to carry her luggage in the book Unlimited Access by FBI agent Gary Aldridge.

it's easy to appear smart when you are never challenged by the media. democrats know all about this. republicans on the other hand experience the media's wrath on every move. but when the media fawns over every thing an incompetent person does just because of his skin color the result is the mess this country finds itself in now. of course the republicans won't win 2016. people haven't lit the torches against the democrats yet. maybe the country is so far gone nobody cares anymore. republicans should just sit out 2016 and let the dems finish running the country into the ground. then they could run a rock and it would win.
