Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The al Qaeda breakaway group that has seized much of northern Syria and huge tracks of neighboring Iraq formally declared the creation of an Islamic state on Sunday in the territory under its control. The spokesman for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, made the announcement in an audio statement posted online. Islamic extremists have long dreamed of recreating the Islamic state, or caliphate, that ruled over the Middle East for hundreds of years. "The legality of all emirates, groups, states and organizations becomes null by the expansion of the caliph's authority and the arrival of its troops to their areas," al-Adnani said.

Well, show over. Nothing more to see here. ISIS has declared the Caliphate. We can all go home now.

ISIS can declare whatever it wants. But unless the people of the region accede to their violent bullying, the declaration does not mean a thing.

I suppose all the righties here are going to support ISIS's freedom to set their own laws and customs according to their religion?

Meh, let ISIS make a good solid foothold... that way we can turn that area to radioactive glass and not have to worry about innocents being vaporized. The world needs to see a nuclear explosion again to be reminded what the inevitable end of all this stupid squabbling. If youre willing to kill for a silly book you need to be plastered to the pages of history already.

Probably because I don't support the idea that religious folks get to set their own rules concerning the rest of society. If you do support the HL decision, then I ask, do you support ISIS?

#7 | Posted by TFDNihilist at 2014-06-30 05:00 PM | Reply | Flag:

HL supplies 16 of the 20 contraceptives in the mandate, don't see a problem there. I do see a problem in a federal mandate on personal choice though. The employees of HL have 16 choices. If they really want the other 4, they also have a choice to seek employment elsewhere. It is a free country.

ISIS supports the strictest form of Shariah Law to include disfigurement, honor killings, and death by stoning. Citizens under that law do not have any choices. It is not a free country.

If you see those two as apples and apples comparison, then there in-lies the problem.

Oh, forgot my comment about the NRA. I have many Democratic friends from Wisconsin that fully support the NRA. They have gun lockers full of everything. They campaign for local Democrats. I don't, I don't own any guns.

So, what pray tell does the NRA have to do with this post or the HL post?

Try to make a lucid commentary or let this thread die on the vine.

BTW, the only reason that those 14 options exist is because HL decided that they were valid. It's still a case of them forcing their views on others.

No, both hard core Islamics and Baptists want the same things - women in their place, no booze and the right to tell everybody how to run their lives.

Basically, if they had Jesus instead of his dad, taliban afghanistan would have been adored by conservatives and talibaptists. No taxes, no SS or medicare, no mouthy women or children and all the guns (and private armies) money could get you.

They do.
TRICARE covers abortion to protect the health of the mother.
I can understand if you don't like it, but if you don't believe it you are not participating in reality.

They have the power to make you pay for the deaths of over 4,000 adult American troops.

That probably doesn't bother you near as much as the prevention of potential humans do.

Heard a report out of the Iraqi Parliament today, they're trying to choose a Speaker, they can't agree, said perhaps they will get around to it in the next couple of weeks.

I suspect that if Saddam could be resurrected most Iraqis would say "bring him back."

pretty funny ...and I"m sure it's a joke even if it's not....

this isn't the first lines I"ve read comparing American citizens in this country with animals torturing and murdering people of unknown numbers.

anytime despicable comparisons like this come down, one thing is certain. the radical left wing is scared. very scared.

YOUR president screwed up iraq. The fact that you can't admit it means no one should listen to anything you say.

After invading, the only way to prevent the civil war would be to keep masses amount of forces there FOREVER. YOUR president signed an agreement to bring them home. "My" president simply followed YOUR president's plan.

"I don't believe they have the power to make me pay for someones abortion."

But they absolutely have the power to take your money to support the child who would have bee aborted from cradle to grave. Trust me. Abortion is cheaper.

"My" president simply followed YOUR president's plan."

It's your president that it's the big seat now. But fortunately for him, it's looking more and more like Putin is going to step in once again and take a crack at solving the problem. I watched video yesterday of Russians unloading SU-25 FROGGERs off tranport aircraft. That's sort of the Russian version of the A-10. A ground attack aircraft. The US no longer has A-10s. Got rid of them so they could finance the F-35 boondoggle.

The Russians are not like Americans. History has taught them that winning a war is more important than placating outside interests and losing.

Maybe they'll even get bored and bring it Spetsnaz. After that it'll be game over for ISIS.

And then how long will the russians stay there in your fantasy scenario? Til it bankrupts them again? Because it'll fall into civil war again as soon as they leave.

Ah, but that's where you're wrong. The Russians in Afghanistan were trying to create and support a government that would support the Soviet cause. Unless their position changes, the Russian role is to deter and/or defeat ISIS.

Not saying that it won't prevent the future possibility of civil war, but I am saying that it will result in ISIS being severely crippled.

YOUR president did nothing of the sort...MY president would have gotten an agreement with the govt there and not pulled out just for political reasons.

MY president got rid of one of the most evil men in the world's history, ....YOUR president helped get a caliphate begun...seen pics of people with slit throats, literally crucified and dead in mass graves...that's YOUR presidents' doing....just like the pictures of the criminals FLOODING the border invading us from the Southern border he SWore to defend.....
