Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, June 29, 2014

A five-year-old golden retriever named Murphy that disappeared in Tahoe National Forest during a family camping trip after being spooked by the sound of a hunter's gunshot has been found two years later. Nathan and Erin Braun never stopped searching for the dog, and when a camper thought he'd spotted her five miles from where she had gone missing, they left out Murphy's old bed and the family's clothing. The dog was found later sleeping on it.

"spooked by the sound of a hunter's gunshot"
Nothing good EVER comes from guns.

This carless and irresponsible gun-nut, is responsible for Murphy's 2 year long separation from his family. At least he did not shot the dog thinking it was a deer, like the stupid hunter here in Arizona.

Get a grip Sammy."Careless and irresponsible gun nut"? He was a hunter. It's the families fault for letting him run around unleashed.

Dog was being taken care of.

Don't know by whom but who could resist a sweet and lost golden retriever?

UNFORUNATE FACT ..If the gun-nut hunter, had stayed home, or attended his local Sovereign Citizen, White Militia, Tea Party, NRA or Arian Nation Pride Parade on that day, Murphy would NOT have been separated from the folks who loved him, for two LONG years

"Gun nut hunter"? If you don't hunt and rely on others to kill your meat, unless you're a vegetarian, shut up.

If they would've had the dog properly leashed, It wouldn't matter if the 3rd Marine Division was having target practice over the next ridge.

"Dog was being taken care of. Don't know by whom but..."

i don't think so. i think he ate what he could catch. Two years of being fed by someone would have elicited loyalty. He would not have returned to the old bed. i think this is as likely as a non-identified benefactor, who cared for a dog that left him or her for a long forgotten memory. Or perhaps he scrounged the garbage of campers, or they fed him an occasional meal & went away, in addition to his natural hunting & survival skills.
Story does have elements of Disney's "Incredible Journey," minus the dog finding his way home (which has happened with dogs or cats lost on vacation).

On average Tahoe gets 407 inches of snow.

That's not all at once but that's more than enough to keep 90% of the sumer time tourists out of the Tahoe national forest and prevent a dog from hunting.

I suspect this dog was being looked after but never stopped looking for it's family in the woods.

What kind of golden retriever is afraid of a gunshot?

I'd like to point out the gun shot can be considered part of the effort to keep wildlife from over populating.
