Jerry Hirsch, Los Angeles Times: Morgan Stanley Research analyst Adam Jonas makes that argument in a new report to investors. "Not even two years after the delivery of the first Model S, Tesla Motors has transformed from fledgling start-up to arguably the most important car company in the world. We are not joking," Jonas wrote. "Tesla is also emerging as an emblematic force in America's effort to foster high tech manufacturing job growth." Here's why.

Tesla has gone from zero to hero with automotive suppliers, which once shunned the Palo Alto, Calif., car company.

Tesla is having a positive effect on the U.S. economy.

Tesla is uniquely America.

The only way electric will take off is if it's runs just like a gasoline vehicle, same horse power, everything.

Wake me when a Toyota Tundra is all electric...

" I hate to break it to the progressives, but Tesla is a status symbol"

In the future, owning a car, any car, will be a status symbol. The alternative to petro-mobiles isn't electric cars, it's fewer cars.

Good link though Larry, I had already seen that one as I have owned many Tundra's.

I just bought a new one and it can also burn E85. Problem is, there are no E85 stations in the Triad area of N.C....

A gasoline engine will never deliver torque to the wheels as well as an electric motor. Plus essentially zero pollution. Battery technology and charging the stations are the only things standing in the way, except oil companies. Exxon & GM bought Stanford Oshevskey's battery and solar cell company and shut down production of large batteries.

Equally important there will not be very much to repair with electric cars and repairs will not require special skills and tools. This terrifies car dealers.

Tesla is awesome. Amazaing. They took green technology and created a product that is desirable by people who make fun of green technology.

It should be obvious that Steve Jobs just like Elon Musk and others have a built in Wall St money changer cheer leading squad that other "average" entrepreneurs never receive nor do they ever benefit.

It should be obvious that Jobs and Musk EARNED their cheerleader squads.

There's something called a TRACK RECORD.

Elon is so far ahead of the pack it is a little bit scary. A man who has come unstuck in time. Genius like his is rare and rarer still that he has become so effective in the auto industry exactly where he was sorely needed. Too bad there are so many neanderthals like you that need to be enlightened so that we can ALL move forward into a more peaceful and secure world. And I thought you were a soldier. Don't you realize yet that Energy is a National Security issue? What is wrong with you people?

I meant to include that he is a true Visionary...one that has figured out how to actually mass produce his vision. Kind of a cross between Leonardo Da Vinci and Henry Ford.

No wonder the Iron Man character, Tony Stark, was modeled after him.

Re#16 yeah ..could have worded that better. I was talking about the Hollywood version that Robert Downy Jr played. He says he modeled his character, Tony Stark after Elon Musk.

And it really is a good fit which is why it works.

You begin to believe the myth. We Americans love us some Hero and you even find yourself saying it.

Damn..he probably planned that..

.. He IS good.

Donner,

True captains of industry don't come along often.

But when they do men like Ford, Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Hughes come with thunder in the wings and shake the WORLD with their innovations.
