Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

After passionate debate over how best to help break the deadlock between Israel and the Palestinians, the Presbyterian Church of the U.S. voted Friday to divest from three companies that it says supply Israel with equipment used in the occupation of Palestinian territory. The church, one of a handful of historic mainline Protestant denominations and the church of many American presidents, is the largest yet to endorse divestment at a churchwide convention. "We're still committed to Israel and its right to exist, but we're concerned about the occupation and think Israel can do better," said the Rev. Gradye Parsons, one of the church's leaders.

Perhaps we should compare how minority religions have been treated in Islamic countries over the last century and compare to Israel....

...of course that would require using 2 or 3 functioning brain cells, and might even make Israel look like the good guy. Can't have that....

The denominations name is "Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)"

This needs to spread world wide as it's the only way Israel can be forced to behave in a civilized way.

At least those Islamic countries sell us oil. What does blind support for Israel get us, other than the enmity of the 23% of the world population that is Muslim?

I am not a Presbyterian, but, if I were, this would make me think about whether I wanted to support such an organization. Do they not know how Israel obtained the territory it had. The Arab states attacked Israel and lost, Israel got the Wes Bank from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria and Gaza from Egypt. The "Palestinians" did not have control of those territories or ever in history. Punish the innocent and reward the guilty? That seems to be in style in "liberal" minds.

DONALD it could be that the PCU.S.A. want nothing to do with the CURRENT bloodshed.

If Presbyterians were concerned about human rights, they would divest their holdings of companies that exist in the Islamic world.

In fact, that would be much easier anyway. There just aren't any. Quick now: name a single pharmaceutical company between Morocco and Jakarta. Or one that builds airplanes. Or cars. Or a high-tech firm.

At least you'll be able to get some good PR out of it, though.

@ WHITEDEVIL

How do you know they haven't already done that?

SAAL, SAHA, Airbus Middle East, ADAT, etc..

Being Muslim doesn't mean they live in the dark ages.

If you only look normal by comparing yourself to ----- then you're a ----.

Regardless of what anyone else does, Israel treats non-jews as 2nd class citizens.

Moot point. We condemn Muslims for how they treat other faiths, so how can you use their actions to justify horrible ones?

It is like saying "terrorists behead people" to justify treating them like crap. I thought they were evil for beheading people. How can we use evil to justify another's actions and not view them as evil?
