Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, June 20, 2014

An Orange County grand jry has indicted 15 people -- including a $1 million donor to President Barack Obama's re-election campaign, 10 doctors and a pharmacist -- for their alleged involvement in a multi-million dollar workers compensation fraud scheme. The alleged ringleader and two others also face one charge of involuntary manslaughter. Kareem Ahmed allegedly hired pharmacists to produce three "compounded transdermal cream," then paid kickbacks to a number of physicians and chiropractors to prescribe the creams to their workers' compensation patients. He paid physicians a total of more than $25 million to dispense the compound creams between June 15, 2010, and Dec. 31, 2012, according to the indictment. The amounts individual doctors received between 2010 and 2013 ranged from $600,000 to more than $2.5 million, it alleged.

One of the 44 counts in the indictment charged Ahmed, Rudolph and Jarminski of involuntary manslaughter. It alleged that on or about Feb. 3, 2012, the three "did unlawfully and without malice kill Andrew G. (a minor) ... in the commission of a lawful act which might produce death, in an unlawful manner and without due caution and circumspection." The indictment gave no other details.

Shadowy Obama Megadonor Indicted On Fraud And Manslaughter Charges

Despite having little history of political giving, Ahmed gave $1 million to the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA Action in 2012, along with hundreds of thousands of dollars to support Democrats. In his interview with TPM in 2012, Ahmed called House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) his best friend, and said he regularly spent time with governors and U.S. senators. Data maintained by The Center for Responsive Politics show that Ahmed contributed tens of thousands of additional dollars to Democrats in 2013.

"Not every person who is interested in investing in the direction of the country is looking to make themselves famous by doing it," Burton told TPM in 2012.

According to The Center for Responsive Politics, Ahmed made his most recent federal campaign contribution on September 30, 2013: $5,200 to Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA). In early October, the Orange County District Attorney's Office raided the offices of Landmark Medical Management.

What is important to Pcon is that the fraudster gave money to Obama, with a guilt by association implied against Obama.

What exactly is the relevancy of his status as a "mega donor" to Obama?

Florida is a horrible work comp state. Most carriers will file work comp in all states, except monolistic states........and Florida. If they do write in Florida, it's a separate policy.

What is the relevancy that obama's middle name is HUSSEIN?

NONE. But to right wingers they think it proves some secret conspiracy.

It's called confirmations bias. They just pick random items and events that happen to fit their false fabricated world view.

I don't think a president can control the morals of everyone who donates money to them. Is there any evidence that Obama helped this guy out or gave him any favors? I doubt Paneocon believes there should be consequences for Obama over this...he's just posting it to post it.

This is pretty damning but I doubt Holder will investigate the Obama connection.

Because they investigate donors? And did anyone know of the criminal activity back then?

In Obama's America, donors to the opposition party are investigated.

Publicly there was no crime when Obama took the money but one would assume that due diligence was done on any million dollar donors and this guy didn't just cook this fraud up last week. A mistake or arrogance you decide?

This is a win for Obama and the dems. Crooks that donate big to them still get prosecuted. I wish that was always the case.

There is no need for due diligence on accepting donations. It is free speech according to CU.

You do understand that donating money to a superpac is not considered to be the same as donating money directly to a candidate, right?

#16 | Posted by Whatsleft at 2014-06-20 06:46 PM | Reply | Flag:

The millennial culture among political elites, along with their substantial donors is that being in the club of elitism is akin to having an insurance policy that provides immunity and protects against prosecution, and IRS audits.

It works too, using the same cost/benefit ratio that K St and Wall Street use that giving to politicians brings in 1000x disproportionate more profits than costs, and if one factors in immunity from prosecution, it is even more advantageous, along with accompanying taxpayer backstops and bailouts. The special club benefits and the sheep pay.

Our system is totally corrupt and we pretend it is not partisan. Every politician is inevitably guilty by association and should be put on trial to defend their honor for as yet undiscovered travesties. They are guilty...we just do not know it yet.

I am pretty sure that all he knows is that some alleged Obama supporter has done something wrong..Ipso facto Obama is a criminal.

These various 'corrupt donor' threads are always fun.

Always predictable how it always means every aspect of the situation on the 'otherside' is corrupt, but on 'yourside' is an 'isolated incident'.

Which is not say that we don't have vast amounts of corruption. I just am firmly of the belief that a large portion of it is short sighted stupidity, and often not even viewed as corrupt by those doing it (in some cases they even have a point.....).
