Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A convent of nuns in suburban Chicago has filed a lawsuit against a neighboring strip club they say plays throbbing music while the nuns try to pray. The Sisters of St. Charles named Club Allure Chicago and the village of Stone Park in their lawsuit filed Friday in Cook County Circuit Court. The sisters' suit states that "pulsating and rhythmic staccato-beat noise and flashing neon and or strobe lights" that disturb the nuns. Strip club manager Robert Itzkow said, "We spent an awful lot of money to make sure that this kind of thing would not occur. The whole thing is just a question of 'we don't like you; you don't conform to our religious beliefs.'" He said the club's dancers "aren't monsters. They're daughters; they're mothers, and some of them are Catholics too."

Simply, if there is a noise law that says you have to keep it down, then simply obey the law and keep the noise down. I don't care if it is a church or a strip club making the noise, or college kids in a phrat house. Have they even asked the owner if there was a way to compromise on the noise being so loud?

They should pray to their god for deafness.

If the club made a real effort to help keep the noise down then good chance(would not surprise me) that the clubs comments may be correct. Again also goes back to location, location, location. Putting a loud strip club next to a church should have made a person go, this may cause an issue. Again if they are truly that loud even with all their attempts to keep the inside noise down, I feel sorry for those inside with bleeding ears.

Catholic strippers? Maybe the nuns are suing them for false advertisement.

They could come in and set in the club, maybe sing some old hymns, habits and all. It might put a damper on the club's business tho.

The problem with nuns (Catholic's) is that they make up their own rules concerning the word of God.

The bible clearly states: You don't go to secular courts to satisfy or quail problems. You go to the Lord. Just the fact that they are doing this proves to me (and should to everyone else) that they don't really rely on God, but on the courts and other non-believers to satisfy their problems...

Two nuns went into a bar and....

#12 I was thinking the same thing. It is supposed to be non-Christian behavior. Christians are supposed to pray for those poor lost souls and try to witness to them. Perhaps the nuns should pass out religious fliers to the strip club's customers and employees. That may make the club a little more flexible in dealing with the nuns.

Maybe they just got tired of being ignored?

Put up a sign and charge for confessions. Business will boom on both sides. It's the Chicago way.

The law states how close to a religious institution a strip club can locate, if this were a temple, mosque or synagogue the issue would be the same. The problem is that Stone Park is a notoriously corrupt town and they do not mind bending the law to issue a permit, especially since the convent is located in the next town over. They have still violated the state law and the strip club should be shut down. That is unless the corrupt (democrat) states attorney Lisa Madigan (who happens to be catholic)tries to create a loop hole.

Damn. I was SO hoping this was an EEOC issue.

High volume, throbbing music can require prayers of tolerance, or even more, from those subjected to it without their concurrence.
