Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Militants from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria boasted on Twitter that they had executed 1,700 Iraqi government soldiers, posting gruesome photos to support their claim. The authenticity of the photographs and the insurgentsí claim could not be verified, and Iraqi government officials initially cast doubt on whether such a mass execution took place. If the claim is true, it would be the worst mass atrocity in either Syria or Iraq in recent years, surpassing even the chemical weapons attacks in the Syrian suburbs of Damascus last year, which killed 1,400 people and were attributed to the Syrian government.

Religious conservatives killing their fellow religious conservatives, at the end of this CIVIL WAR (which is none of OUR ..or HUSSEIN Obama's business) there will be less conservatives on the face of the earth ..FACT

You do realize these are the types of people that liberals, and especially the European left, have coddled and idolized for years right? Allowing Sharia Law zones in entire neighborhoods of London, passing no pork or alchohol laws, refusing to deport or punish parent who kill their children in honor killings, gang rape minors etc? The secular governments that kept these groups in check (Libya and Syria for example) were targeted by NATO and the US.

And its a pretty crappy to judge a whole group of people by the actions of just some (I think its called prejudice, or the left prefers racism) when you say that all the soldiers being executed were religious conservatives.

Time to see if the Iraqi's really want freedom and liberty

Re #1 - Sammy showing his bigoted arrogance and stupidity and indirectly promoting violence; which is ironic given that he probably ascribes the same behavior to all conservatives (i.e. you a hypocrite).

Co-operating with invaders has always been dangerous.

This is why we must have guns, to stand up to our oppressive government when the time comes!

What about POW status and Geneva Convention stuff.

What about trials, or at least imprison them (even if innocent)?

These militants should be treating their prisoners better than this.

ISIS makes a practice of using slaughter and other forms of terror to (a) intimidate the people it seeks to control, and (b) get the Shias whipped up so they go out and terrorize the hell out of Sunnis who then feel they've no recourse but rely on and support ISIS. Brutal? You bet. Effective? Short term, certainly. In the longer term, though, it's hard to believe that ISIS itself is able to put together this much manpower. There are plenty of reports that disgruntled - to put it mildly - Sunnis, former Iraqi military folk (from the army the US disbanded), onetime Reawakening types, have thrown there lot in with ISIS for at least the short term. How, when, and if the dust settles and things start shaking out, well, that's a whole other subject.

From what I have heard in reports... The Population isn't cooperating with the ISIL or ISIS or whatever the label is today but they are not helping the government either. I am sure some are though as the Shiite forces have been misbehaving badly in these areas for some time. For example on I keep hearing is the solders sometimes take women who just disappear... Nothing that wasn't happening under Sadam to the Shia (and everyone else). Maliki has done nothing but create divides among the peoples of Iraq.

Also it isn't even a claim. They massacred people. Whether they were army or just men of a certain age is the question.

Why don't they call these militant ISIS what they are? This is a Sunni group who have ties to Saudi Arabia who are also Sunni.

The Iranian oil bourse must have the Bush's paranoid enough to get Bandar involved in the war for oil.

Why doesn't George pick up the phone and call his buddy to stop?

This IS the true face of Islam.

I so wish I could see evidence that this is NOT the true face of Islam.

But the only thing that 'moderates' will do is move their lips.

The only way 'moderates' would do LESS is if the victims were non-Muslim.

But if real, actual, action is taken against the 'militants', you can be sure the 'moderates' will heap a ton on condemnation on any non-muslim forces involved.

I've given up expecting a change......

I remember having an argument here around a year or two ago, after some 'Islamic authority' issued some sort of 'strong condemnation of terror', and the lefties were talking about how significant it was....

Anyone remember which 'condemnation of terror' that was? Any evidence it actually had an effect?

Or are we defaulting to:
"...nothing that happens anywhere is the fault of Muslims doing exactly what they say are doing, for exactly the reasons they say that they are doing it for. It is all the fault of Israel and the U.S.....".

"This IS the true face of Islam."

that's just lazy and stupid.

this is what these militants BELIEVE is the true face of islam since truth is SUBJECTIVE.

others, including the security forces being murdered who are also muslims believe it to be the FALSE face of Islam and not in line with their TRUTH.

with that said.. these people are definitely inspired by words in their holy books and more over especially words by the clerics they follow who are doing the interpretation for them.

the TRUE face of islam today for me is civil war.

I have caps certain words because your mind seems narrow and you need hand holding in the nuance.

There is no subjective truth in Islam, stop thinking with your western values and perspective. To do so is lazy and stupid.
