Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is expected to arrive in the United States sometime early Friday, a senior Pentagon official said Thursday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the news was not authorized to be released publicly. Bergdahl has been treated at the military hospital at Landstuhl Germany, after he was released by his Taliban captors in Afghanistan after five years as a captive.

Bergdahl's return to America signals the beginning of the second phase of the three-part process to ease him back into normal, everyday life. The first phase, completed at Landstuhl for Bergdahl, involves a team that often includes a chief, usually a colonel, debriefers on survival and escape and intelligence, psychologist, medical personnel, a chaplain and a lawyer.

Bergdahl's five years in captivity were brutal, according to the official who spoke on condition of anonymity. An Army investigation, completed shortly after he disappeared from his post in eastern Afghanistan, determined that he wandered outside the wire and was captured.

Bergdahl has not been charged with any crime, including being absent without leave. The Army will conduct another investigation about his disappearance, leaving open the possibility of some type of discipline.

"The first phase of recovery for Bergdahl has lasted longer than usual. It typically takes 48 hours, according to two senior defense officials who spoke about his case only on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Phase two is generally a minimum of five days to as long as three weeks. The final phase, in which the service member reunites with family but continues to be monitored by specialists, can last a day or as long as five years.

When Bergdahl lands in Texas, and arrives at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, phase two of his reintegration will begin. That is generally when the returning service member has first contact with family members, which is usually a phone call, the officials said."

Exclusive: Bergdahl Explains in Prison Letters Why He Vanished

In a pair of letters, the captured U.S. soldier asks his government to reserve judgment about his disappearance -- and complains about the officers leading his unit in Afghanistan.

Terrible headline, really. He mentions some of the poor conditions, but doesn't go into any rationale or story about leaving the wire, just asks people to wait until he can speak.

Good luck with that, Bowe.

For once I agree with Rush. His fat ass could use a little time in a sweat box. Five years sounds just about right for that ton of lard. He wouldn't even have to stand on one leg because the box isn't big enough to stand up.

Yet that fat coward used a pimple on his ass to stay out of Vietnam.

Not to mention Joe Biden's five deferments for asthma while he was playing college sports while thousands died in vietnam. Regardless of Bergdahl's lack of logic it's still not acceptable to simply leave your post while in combat. There were other soldiers living in the same conditions who fulfilled their service.

Obama really screwed this guy when he used him as a political prop to try and cover up his crappy deal releasing the Taliban's best and brightest. He knew he would catch crap and thought he could shield himself with the narrative that he traded for a hero. Turns out Bergdahls fellow soldiers don't like being told that a guy that walked off his post served with honor and distinction.

Chickenhawk Righties cant wait to spit on him when he gets back.

They have abandoned the 'innocent till proven guilty' thingy and want to get on with the lynching. They are hoping for a 2 nooser and want to see the POTUS in the second noose.

Actually, they would let Bergdazzi go free if they could get the President hanged without him.

Hyperbole flag on me. But not by much.

I think the "dummy" flag would be way ahead of the "hyperbole" flag. Only because your race baiting wasn't weak.

Dalton,
You're wasting your time. This thread is for personal attacks on those right of center. Or clever insults like "pea Party".

101, I know it's a waste of time. I just like seeing how far these clowns will go to defend Obummer. They are literally claiming the right is attacking Bergdahl while they and the white house attack soldiers that actually did serve with honor and distinction.

"The father of embattled POW Bowe Bergdahl, who landed on US soil today, waged a sinister campaign of stalking and harassment against pretty twin sisters – even stealing a gnome from their garden and peaking at them in the shower, the sisters claim in shocking police reports.

Bearded Robert ‘Bob' Bergdahl drove by the home of Lacey and Allie Hillman ‘several times a day' over a period of months and left ‘creepy' notes for them, the sisters allege in police documents, obtained exclusively by MailOnline.

Once Bergdahl banged on Allie's door and accused her of ‘two-timing' him – despite the fact that the pair never dated or were even friends, Allie told police."

if he's found guilty of desertion here's hoping he gets a lot more than that...but with this president and this administration and the lies and fraud and political mobsters and criminals...I doubt he'll be found guilty of anything....

and libs should know all about treating vets like crap...it's been part of their DNA for a long time...I believe it was LIBS who called them 'terrorists going from home to home ' and another lib related them to the GULAGS.....and it's LIBS who call vets too stupid to do anything else...and on and on and on.....so your post rings hollow at best.

Army general tapped to investigate how, why Bowe Bergdahl left base

The U.S. Army has appointed a two-star general to investigate how and why Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl left his base in Afghanistan, resulting in his capture, a senior defense official said Saturday.

The investigating officer looking into the circumstances surrounding how Bergdahl went missing is expected to begin working on the case next week, though that doesn't necessarily signal anything about when the sergeant will undergo formal questioning.

An Army fact-finding investigation conducted in the months after his disappearance concluded he left his outpost deliberately and of his own free will, according to an official who was briefed on the report.

The Army has no definitive finding that Bergdahl deserted because that would require knowing his intent -- something officials couldn't learn without talking to the soldier, a U.S. military official recently told CNN.

At least the Army wasn't willing to spit on this POW, at least until they talk to him... unlike a lot other people.
