Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, June 11, 2014

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz "has formally renounced his Canadian citizenship and pursuant to the Citizenship Act will cease to be a citizen," according to a renunciation certificate provided to the Dallas Morning News. The switch became official May 14. The Republican had been pursuing the renunciation ever since he released his birth certificate to the paper last August. The release intensified scrutiny of a potential 2016 run.

I wonder if it will be an issue when Cruz runs for president that only running for president could motivate him to stop being a Canadian?

#2 | Posted by Zed at 2014-06-10 08:33 PM | Reply | Flag:

otoh, it could be an issue that he didn't even know he was a Canadian until someone mentioned it.

Not good for the Cubano Canuck either way.

Oh boy this should be good.

First, the Supreme Court has not ruled on what a "natural born citizen" is defined as. Some say you must be born here, some say you must have a parent that is a citizen at birth and being born out of Country is no problem.

John McCain was born in the Panama Canal zone yet was able to run for President.

When Obama's birthplace was in question liberals were quick to point out his citizen mother and say it does not matter if he were born in Hawaii or Kenya. Now with Cruz running we can dig up all those old arguments that suddenly they will be against.

I am pretty sure no liberals actually said that. Because Obama's birthplace was never really "in question".

Being as how we LIBERALS knew all along (and never really questioned or disputed the fact) that he was born in Hawaii which is in the United States AS WE HAD NO REASON TO.

The ONLY reason anyone is EVEN saying ANYTHING now is BECAUSE of the loonie tunes you have in the GOTP and the issue THEY made of Obama's citizenship (which was only a problem in the mind of the GOTP xenophobes).

#16 | POSTED BY MSGT AT 2014-06-11 05:15 PM | FLAG: HOGGING ALL THE STUPID PILLS AGAIN

You are wrong...AGAIN. The Birther movement was not started by Clinton supporters it began in the uber rightwingnut forum called the Free Republic. Nor were Clinton supporters the early adopters of that line of B.S. . However there was a period of time when the rabid mouth foamers supporting democrat John Edwards (from South Carolina) were spamming cyberspace with a little diddy titled Our future First Family or something equally stupid. It ws a small collection of Obama's Kenyan relations , grandmother, half brother etc. all sitting around in their relatively primative surroundings. It was an effort to poke the hornets nest of southerners bent of preventing a -------- president.

Yes it was blatantly racist but it never implied that Obama was Kenyan however it's intent was to make sure they the world knew just how close the semi first generation American was to his ------------ roots.

Funn-eh thaaaang... Edwards never made it out of the starting gate anyways which is why most boffos forgot about that stupid prank. Its easy to see why the republiclowns could make that mistake... with them big fat finger gloves and them floppy feet they hate dealing with detail... and its one of the reasons they think Reagan was the cat's meow.

However those of us that avoid dank fog of ignorance on the right side of the aisle know the clown brigade just loves them some stupid and will rattle off weird things attributing them to the left because someone told them this or that.

Remember when the righty tighties were always accusing the left of saying Islam was a religion of peace... but could not offer much proof of that... other than we are a brazen pack of atheists.... All we had to do was google once and we could come up with at least 6 different videos of Bush saying that very thing in a speeches to the American pubic.

all it takes is one spark of intelligence... a light light of truth and the clownies favorite brain fart du jour goes away in a blue flash

stupid, stupid, stupid, alllllll the way home.
like shooting pigs in a barrel.

The Black folk, by and large, don't think you like them. The Hispanics, by and large, don't think you like them.

There are reasons for that. They've all been well reviewed. The GOP won't believe in them. Your lack of self-analysis is funny, when not frightening.

Anything I tell you will simply be denied. Again.

You don't have it in you at this point of time to even recognize what you've done, what you've said, and how these affect the feelings and behavior of other people.

You've got myths to cover why so many classes of people won't vote for you. You really want nothing more.

Reality has a well-known liberal nonsense bias.

A well-known Liberally immature nonsensical bias.

Now, I know there are some polls out there saying this man has a 32 percent approval rating. But guys like us, we don't pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics that reflect what people are thinking in reality. And reality has a well-known liberal bias ...

''Sir, pay no attention to the people who say the glass is half-empty. Because 32 percent means it's two-thirds empty. There's still some liquid in that glass, is my point. But I wouldn't drink it ... The last third is usually backwash.'

Its more like you can't handle the truth.

The truth is, when you have Republican State legislatures change the law so that Black citizens can no longer vote on particular days when they found it traditional and convenient to vote, they see you as racists and hate you.

You don't want to be hated? You don't want to be seen as racists? Then stop behaving in racist and hateful ways.

If Cruz ever runs for President, the Supreme Court will have to get involved to decide what the Constitution means by the phrase "natural born." Right now it's considered an unsettled issue *according to PolitiFacts, who refuses to take a position on the subject.

Just like John McCain being born on a Navy base in the Panama Canal Zone, Cruz would probably have his own team of scholars ready to handle any dispute during a campaign.

With his track record as a foaming-at-the-mouth radical on that blitzkrieg, citizenship would probably be the least of his problems.

That theory first emerged in the spring of 2008, as Clinton supporters circulated an anonymous email questioning Obama's citizenship.

"Barack Obama's mother was living in Kenya with his Arab-African father late in her pregnancy. She was not allowed to travel by plane then, so Barack Obama was born there and his mother then took him to Hawaii to register his birth," asserted one chain email that surfaced on the urban legend site Snopes.com in April 2008.

It may be false (I would like RIGHTISTRITE to back up his assertion), but I've been throwing that little diddy around for months!

Hillary made it clear - she does not run attacks; she merely "sets distinctions" (paraphrasing). With that said, the birther movement would have been right up her alley.
