The latest foodmakers to face destruction from the Food and Drug Adminstration's (FDA) need to regulate all the things: artisanal cheesemakers. As part of a new push to enforce certain aspects of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), passed in 2011, the agency announced that it will no longer allow cheesemakers to use wooden boards in the aging process.

Nice work FDA. For their next act, they'll ban mold in blue cheese.

Maybe just pass a law indemnifying artisanal cheesemakers.

Its like banning wooden barrels for winemakers.

Mind numbing proliferation by the State of laws and regulations besides bewildering the citizen, also holds the citizen in constant and imminent jeopardy, for at any point in time the citizen must be in breach of some law or regulation and can be called to account by the State for that breach.

Government: Able to screw up just about anything [probably even a wet dream].

By the time the article hit here the FDA already backed off. There was a storm of protest over this proposal. It would have blocked most European cheese and they are the masters. Nothing quite like Jarlsberg.

If we follow the money, I have little doubt that we'd find major food producers pushing these regulations from behind.

Regulation is very often the tool of those trying to stifle competition to their own interests. Regulation is a tool of the oligarchs.
