Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

During his inaugural speech, Ukraine's new President Petro Poroshenko offered to provide a safe corridor for Russian fighters to go home and immunity for all those who don't have bloodshed on their hands, but said his country would never give up Crimea and won't compromise on it's path toward closer ties with the rest of Europe. However, the prospect of Russia reversing it's annexation of Crimea seems unlikely, and the rebels in the east of the country show no sign of backing down.

He definitely has his work cut out for him. It's a very dangerous time in Ukraine right now.

After they met each other on the D-day commemoration, Putin praised Poroshenko's positive thinking and his plan, and agreed to start enforcing security between the border of Russia and Ukraine.

It's not too hard to see the subtext Russia has been in an undeclared war with Ukraine all along, and technically still is.

Does he offer them hope and change? If so, they should run {away} as fast as they can.

Right, because what people need at a time when their country is in the middle of a crisis is somebody who's pessimistic and cynical?

Apparently he offered them more of the same and a VP with bigger ----- than brains. He also pointed out that Ukraine shared a border with Monaco and Tibet.

Bombing hospitals, adminstration buildings in heavily populated civilian areas, shelling residential areas, cutting off water and electricty to said areas, and employing rightwing militia with no sense of ROE, is not gonna help his cause. Qaddafi did the same thing and NATO No Fly Zoned him, taking out his flying tanks, flying pickups, flying checking points, flying bunkers in "aiding" the rebels.

He's not far off the mark. Right-wing protesters from the maidan are now the Ukraine National Guard and in direct gunfights with ethnic militias in the East. They're using artillery, air support, encirclement tactics, and directly bombing facilities taken over by the militias, which are administrative buildings in the middle of population centers. They're using generation 3 warfare to fight against generation 5 warfare.

Pretty much what every strongman does against a rebelling populace.

Not as crazy as you quoting John McCain feeling bad for Georgia, while not knowing that at the same time the Georgians were brutally flattening towns with rocket artillery.

News on the Ukraine conflict isn't hard to find. Vice has interviews of the protesters-turned-national-
guard. Now they've got hardcore, right-wing nationalists filling out their guard, giving them a ton of weaponry and military training. They're between a rock and a hard place and it's the least worst solution Ukraine has. Fighting insurrections requires a high troop density per square mile, so they're using that most ready to go resource for that, militant right-wing protest groups.

On the actual battle fronts, Ukraine airstrikes in Donestk are mainstream news. There are videos of their helicopters shot down with MANPADs. There are videos of Su-25 attack aircraft firing rocket volleys into residential areas.

What did you think they were going to do, hug it out?

The Ukranian armed forces showed their lacking during the Crimea situation.

Entire regiments defected, skippers raised Russian flags and defected with entire ships and their crews, commandants allowed bases to be overrun by militia.

It takes less than 15 keystrokes to find unbiased video, in native languages, on good sites like liveleak. One does not even have to speak the language to understand the situation. Seeing dead civilians in the street (militia dont wear flower print dresses and arent 8 years old), watching city centers get bombed from CCTVs, or seeing the aftermath of pro-Kyiv mobs (unless you believe those women voluntarily removed their clothes, had consensual relations, lit their lower extremities on fire, and shot themselves 3-5 times in the face). You will find plenty of media showing separatists disrobing dead National Guard to show off the 88s, Deathsheads, and swatsikas on the bodies.

We shouldnt be involved in this mess, other than trying to find a resolution that involves bringing both sides to the table. The MSM hailed the elections as a landslide when only 32% of the populace voted, but condemned Egypts elections as unrepresentative of the population when 40% voted. Overthrowing the corrupt billionaire (who imprisoned the previous corrupt billionaire) to replace him with another corrupt billionaire says much about this boondogle.

The leaders of the seperatists are from Russia, they are well known and were also present in Crimea when they ran their pretend referendum. The weapons they are using come from Russia. They are called thieves and murderers in Ukraine, they have ambushed Ukrainian soldiers on numerous occasions and murdered them. Your pro-Russian propaganda only fools those who want to be fooled.

"The MSM hailed the elections as a landslide when only 32% of the populace voted, but condemned Egypts elections as unrepresentative of the population when 40% voted."

I don't know where you get your figures but defending those who threatened to kill anyone showing up to vote and complaining about a low turnout at the same time is sort of ridiculous.

I don't know what reasons you have for trying to push the propaganda but it is reprehensible.

Yeah, no shit there's Russians. The separatists have consolidated into 3 main groups with Russian political and military advisers. Their dead are bused back to Russia for burial. It's called 5th Generation Warfare. It turns out the Russians acknowledge the US as the masters of Gen 5 and get inspiration from the documents that define how we implement it. One of those strategies is to bait the more militarily powerful side into creating events easily turned into propaganda.

Events like this: An Su-25 close air support mission firing unguided rockets into Luhansk.

The "thieves and murderers" are dug in deeply in civilian areas, and the only way to drag them out is door to door urban combat backed by armored vehicles, air support, and artillery bombardment. That means the side the US is backing will kill many innocent civilians, including women and children, to impose their political will on the Eastern territories. There's no way to avoid it.
