Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

U.S. employers kept up a solid pace of hiring in May, returning employment to its pre-recession level and offering confirmation the economy has snapped back from a winter slump. The nation finally recouped the 8.7 million jobs lost during the recession, with 8.8 million more people in work now than at the trough in February 2010. The working age population has risen 10.6 million since then though and 12.8 million people have left the labor force.

Nonfarm payrolls increased 217,000 last month, the Labor Department said on Friday, in line with market expectations. Data for March and April was revised to show 6,000 fewer jobs created than previously reported.

"That suggests the first quarter was an anomaly in terms of what the economy was and we are back to a decent pace of job creation. Overall it's a pretty solid report," said John Canally, an economist at LPL Financial in Boston.

The unemployment rate held steady at a 5-1/2 year low of 6.3 percent in May even as some Americans who had given up the search for work resumed the hunt.

and as usual, there is no mention of the REAL unemployment rate'

you zealots remember that one....that's the one that you said over and over during the early "W" years was totally skewed because it didn't count the people who gave up looking ?? remember that??? yeah I know it just slipped your minds...

SO I KNOW how fair and balanced all of you are DESPERATE TO be....let's look at this rate JUST THE WAY YOU DEMANDED OF US in the first administration of "W"......

The official unemployment rate is 6.3%. However, if you start counting all the people who want a job but gave up, all the people with part-time jobs who want a full-time job, all the people who dropped off the unemployment rolls because their unemployment benefits ran out, etc., you get a closer picture of what the unemployment rate is. That number is ... much higher at 12.3%.

Well using a standard of labor participation rates, we a on a downward slide.....

But there is the argument of demographics, but if you prune it to just 25-60 we are still on a downward slide....

Do not be so quick to praise this administration for the 'good news' as it is a bit deceptive in nature. Read the following just posted today:

'37.2%: Percentage Not in Labor Force Remains at 36-Year High: In April, the number of those not in the labor force hit a record high of 92,018,000. In May, that number declined by 9,000 to 92,009,000. Yet, the participation rate remained the same from April to May at 62.8 percent.'

you see, sonnny boy, it's like this....this liar CHANGED THE LAW all on his own so that the business and employers would not have to THROW people off of their plans or LET THEM GO until after the election...

WHEN THAT HAPPENS...and perhaps for a short time after...let's see how "smart" you are then...JAY !!!

The conservative rubes have very short memories. In the final months of the Bush-Cheney-GOP recession the USA was hemorrhaging 700,000++ jobs per month, Now under the Kenya born, Socialist-Communist-Marxist Muslim dictator HUSSEIN Obama we have had 53 months of private sector job growth, and a reduction of 2 million public sector jobs (something the right-wing loons have been calling for 80 years)

Hmmm you seem to have forgotten to mention the recession Bush inharited when he took over from Clinton. It's easy to forget since the Bush tax cuts among outer things fixed it in 3 quarters!

"Jobs are back, but at less pay.

Clinton / Bush / Obama Fault"

It's really not anyone's fault. It just is. None of these guys really has the power or skill to bend the economy to their will. If they could, then they could manage the budget better, setup a real, long term economic plan, and make an actual energy policy, etc. If they could succeed at any of those, then maybe I could blame them for things going all nutty. Not to mention the complete disregard for our civil rights and privacy...

@#8, you posted something from cnsnews.com without any hint of irony or sarcasm. Was World Net Daily's site down?

"Study after study by the Media Research Center, the parent organization of CNSNews.com, clearly demonstrate a liberal bias in many news outlets – bias by commission and bias by omission – that results in a frequent double-standard in editorial decisions on what constitutes "news."

In response to these shortcomings, MRC Chairman L. Brent Bozell III founded CNSNews.com in an effort to provide an alternative news source that would cover stories that are subject to the bias of omission and report on other news subject to bias by commission."

You do understand that as the boomer generation retires this number will inevitably rise? Oh? I'm sorry. I thought I was talking to someone with a brain and not just a talking point repeater.

Replacement of good paying jobs in manufacturing and construction with low paying service jobs while running visa programs and illegal immigration which increase the need of jobs by 7 million is hardly a solution to the problems the titans of industry have foisted on our country. But its better than the steep dive experienced during the Shrub years.

Of course, the population has grown by 16 million since 2007.

Minimum wage jobs for most Americans while oligarch level jobs for the money changers, Hollywood types, entertainment and marketing. None of which are worth anything in a real world economy.

Well everything is going just fine. No one is out of work, no businesses are closed, we can pay $30 an hour min wage, no problem.

This administration should be writing movie scripts instead of whatever the #*$& they are doing. They sure know how to write fiction.
